I made it through the night.

Good afternoon.
It was a long, loud night last night. We're still under a Tropical Storm warning as Milton makes its way off shore. We'll have on and off rain throught the day as well as winds. We appear to have power, but it's durring the day so our solar pannals are supplying it. I think some of my neighbrs across the street are without power. We also have fresh running water and George's had meds and tube food. I also have cell service.
My friend, who chose to stay, is without power but is otherwise okay. I just texted to check on her and let her know George and I are okay. There doesn't appear to be much in the way of storm damage around my house, but I'll wait until the winds clear out before trying to close the mailbox and bring the bins back out.

The yard here looks like a mess with palm fronds all over. The neighbors with the pool lost a part of their fence. Glad you are all right. I thnked the Lord this mornin had electricity, Internet, and a roof over my head.

I'm glad you have power there, or at least, solar power. It's so hard to function without it. Also glad you are OK. My daughter's house appears to be OK, from the outside. Her Dad went over there and walked around. No power, and everything is a huge mess of tree limbs, downed trees in the neighborhood, debris everywhere. They have no power of course. They are not home yet. When they do arrive home, son in law will be checking the roof well first thing. They have a generator there. There is a huge hunk of a tree in front of their garage on the ground. But it didn't hit the garage. Her car is in there so it should be OK. They will figure out the damages when they get home.
I am also glad to hear you have water and cell service! Take good care, Kayla.

I'm glad her home appears to have survived the storm, down trees and lack of power not withstanding of course. While many are anxious to return home, it'll be a slow road going. I've seen footage of flooded neighborhoods and literal chuncks of road washed away and missing.

@MarieCoyle In a lot of places it is. There's a neighbor on the ring app who's got a two month old, house is flooded and they have no power. Kid's on oxygen. I feel for them, but hopefully, the next storm they plan accordingly.
I know us here in inland Daytona tend to be more relaxed when it comes to storms, because we typically don't get hit as hard. In my neighborhood we never saw more then tropical storm force winds. The beachside barely saw cat one winds. With those odds and numbers it's understandable that folks had a false sense of security. So many ignored multible warnings to seak shelter elseweare. And, that's what's truely heartbreaking.
What adds to this, is when people who've left, aare posting asking about power being back. People who know that it could take hours or days, and other folks biting their heads off.
It's tense here no matter what side of the fence you're on. We have a few spots that have high flooding, and we have areas that are unscathed. We run the risk of not getting help based on what's around us. I am thankful we're okay.

@much2say The news can only show a fraction of the destruction and can't get every place hit. People who live this, know the true extent.

In South Daytona, where I used to live, deep water rescues were going on and people crossing streets in boats.

Sadly, there've been eight confirmed deaths across the state, two within my county. As rescue efforts continue and clean up begins, that could climb.

I'm so glad to hear you're both safe and got your needs covered.
Are you relying on mobile data to connect to the internet at the moment? Are you able to watch TV during the day? It's also good to know your friend is okay.

No, my wi-fi is up-and-running. I switched to fiber internet, which is less prone to outage and damage. But I did get a text letting me know there was an outage in my area and it'll be repaired as oon as it's been deemed safe. Even if I'm not affected.

@somewitch Spectrum cut out once, and there are rolling outages for internet, too. I also recently decided to try wire3, and it never cut off. Got a text from them about rolling outages in the area, though. We also had power all night. Small mini surges when it would switch from grid to backup power. But we had it all night. First surge we had, I turned off the AC. It was cool enough I didn't need it.

We have a line of leaves right in front of our driveway, and that's about it as far as I can see. Looking out the windows of the house, I couldn't tell if our yard had anything. From what I can tell, trees are still standing. Some smaller ones might've fallen over in-between my fence and my neighbor's, but it looks like they were placed there. My one neighbor has his dumpster on its side.

Great to know this! Glad you have power even if it solar powered.Atleast most of the things can be done in daytime. Most importantly you have charge in your cellphones. Any case of emergency , having power in cellphones is always a great relief at all times. Plus, less damage around you is even more fantastic news. I think it would be matter of time before the power would be restored and things would be fixed . Well, luckily it seems the damage has been minimal according to reports although I have checked other sources. Take care of yourself and George, Kayla!
