Wanting Your John Hancock

I guess if you’re not American you don’t get the John Hancock reference, but that’s okay. Let’s just say John Hancock wanted his signature seen. Anyway, I went to the post office today, and there was a lady there trying to get signatures for a petition. I asked her what it was for, but politely declined to sign it once she explained. The guy in line behind me thanked her for doing the petition, and he supported it, but said he couldn’t have his name seen on that petition. The lady said that wasn’t the first time someone told her that. She then cooed to the man that he had a nice smile, but I’ll stop right there. How often do you get people wanting your signature on a petition? Are you more likely to sign an online one? I think I’ve signed one petition in my life in person, but a couple of them online.

What was it for? Was it to improve strip club safety? LOL

That’s the kind of petition you’d get at the post office in the city where I grew up, not where I live now. It was a petition objecting to our tax dollars being used to help build an entertainment district on a piece of land people aren’t happy about. She’s wasting her time, but I admire her worthwhile effort.

@AmbiePam I mean strip clubs are entertainment for someone aren't they? I wonder what the safety standards for a strip club are. Side note, there was a strip club where I grew up called The Pitiful Princess. No joke. The Chinese place next to it was called Hung Far Low. There were MANY jokes made about that.

We had one in our village recently. They are asking to open an area so the local government can pass the materials they need to build something on the other side of the wall. But that means the possibility of opening up the village to other people beyond the village. Our security will be at stake

@rakski on my country our votes don't count. The members of the parliament have the final say

I have signed a few petitions. I know a few women who 'coo' regularly too.

The only time I remember signing a peticion was years ago when someone was getting signatures so that a certain Amina would not be lapidated. After a while, I decided that it was a scam.

They often wait outside of Safeway, the grocery store I go to. Sometimes I sign them and sometimes I walk right by (they usually have the name of their organization on a table or I hear them say it, and that has a lot of influence whether I sign it or not.

I haven't been asked to sign a petition in years. I do not think that I would be inclined to sign one in these days, there is no proof that I am who I sign that I am.

I really have a problem with ones that ask for your address too.

@AmbiePam No, that is too much information to trust a stranger with and for others to read who sign and read your information. That could lead to ID theft.

Very seldom do I get request for signing a piece of paper unless it is on the internet to contact my life lawmaker or a special interest group.

I have signed a couple of online petition, but they only have my name, not my actual sign! I won't give anyone my sign like that!

Last week but one the government of Kenya needed some signs for the people for the petition of the impeachment on the deputy president motion that was filled in the National assembly. I didn't travelled to the city to sign one and there was no option to sing it online.

I've signed a bunch of them around our area cause we have people that let their places look like a dump & destroying our price value to where NO 1 can sell if we wanted to.

That is so disrespectful to you and those who take care of their properties. That’s a great reason to sign a petition.

@AmbiePam everyone around here has but nothing is being done about it & we've had more than 1 of them. The Gov't could care less how people live as long as it's not them living in it or anywhere close to it is how they are.

When people come to me asking to sign one of those, I'm first asked if I'm registered to vote. When I say 'no' suddenly, my signure means nothing.

Years ago when I went to Walmart there were folks out front with petition papers. Not since then.
