Yom Kippur started tonight and that means fasting until nightfall tomorrow.
My mom wanted to have dinner before the fasting started and decided she didn’t want to cook so we went out to eat.
I took her to a place I’ve been to before with hubby. We ordered a beet/endive salad to share and then each of us got French onion soup and a burger. It was a very filling meal. I couldn’t even finish the burger and most of the fries was left untouched. Ended up taking it home. Leaving without having dessert was not an option for me so we ordered a panna cotta to share. It was light and delicious. Great end to a delicious meal.

Wow, that should hold for a few hours. I don't know how a person could fast for a full twenty-four hours. I struggle to do the bare minium for bloodwork.

Sometimes I’m ok but sometimes I’m not. If you feel light headed or nauseous I think it’s ok to at least have some water. Those that take medicine definitely need water.

@lovebuglena I know it's dangerous to go that long without some kind of hydration. You can skip eating for a day if you need to, but hydration is important.

@kaylachan as far as fasting goes (in general) I’ve heard people go without food or drink for days. Wonder why they do it and how they manage it.

@rakski I don’t think you have to be isolated from others.

On Yom Kippur Jewish people reflect on sins or wrongdoings from the previous year and ask everyone for forgiveness. You also fast (no food or drink) and obstain from any kind of work. You can’t have marital relations, can’t wear leather shoes, can’t shower. I don’t think you can drive either.

My mom said the burger she ate was the best she ever had.

It did. I mean I was hungry while fasting but not to the point of I can’t take it anymore.

I always get dessert. If I don’t finish it I can always take it home. And I’ve done that before.

Meal was delicious and I had fries to take home, which I enjoyed for breakfast with sunny egg.
