Watch What You Put on Social Networks

A friend of mine, highly qualified, applied for a serious legal position. He didn't get it. That is cause the interviewer checked his Facebook page. Lots of photos of him wild dancing with this woman who looks like she has a cash register on her bed. He got a small post in some little firm cause they didn't check his Facebook Page. Today, social networks over ride your on paper qualifications when it comes to those kinds of jobs.

This has been known a long time in America. I have chewed friends out because they careless. You can be mad at me, but dude I would never do that to you, do not do it to me. Why many hate Facebook and Facebook till this day does not care. I get some probably deserve it but not everyone does. People are human and you should be just smart enough not to share certain things on Facebook. A fun time and how rich you are is not a brag, it means you a dirt bag. I would probably not work for a place that would not let me be me but at same time I do not go posting my bad behavior.

I can't believe anyone would post that for the public unless they were professional dancers

all are public. Look at it like this, you are my friend. X is also my friend. X gets into your account via me. Just look at the friends of your friends and you'll often see photos and posts, etc.

@jaylar That's why I have restricted all my posts to only friends!! Only the cover photo can be viewed by the public but not my display picture or posts!

@anya12adwi I never put anything I don't want the world to see on FB. If I have something to say to you I;ll use messenger.

Yes, they do, sadly. And the reality is, if you don't want it public don't post it. THere's ways around privacy settings.

I don't think they comprehend 'public'... that they can put up a poster on main street which will get less viewers.

@jaylar No. A lot of peole are under the illusion that they're safe online. That they can post freely and keep private if they wish.

@kaylachan if anyone cared they would make public announcements but being online is unsafe anywhere. There are cases of pederasts finding children online, getting the name and address of the car picture posted, pretending to be an old friend based on conversations. Houses are broken into when the owner is away, bragging about flying to... over Xmas...

I agree , we should be careful with what we post in the social media. I have not encountered any situation where we faced challenges becuase of what we posted in social media. Have not heard from any one close to me on such incidents. This mention from yours is first time , I am aware of such an incident regarding candidature not considered. Try to keep professonal in all ways in social media and if there are personal moments , share it privately with known people. Unfortuately not people do what they are supposed to do and as a result they have challenges like the one you have mentioned.

My friend had no idea that his social network would be brought into his professional standing. He foolishly thought they were separate. which also renders him unsuitable for the kind of high level job.
