Ernestine Goes to Church

I hadn’t met Ernestine until about 4 months ago. I had heard OF her, but never crossed her path. Ernestine is a 94 year old lady who happens to be blind and almost completely deaf. She didn’t start off that way, but I think we all know life, as we age, does not get kinder. She lives in an assisted living facility, and my dad and Diana went to her birthday party last week. Ernestine is at church every Sunday morning, like clock work. Since her hearing is bad, the church has a set of headphones for her to follow along better. She requires help every step of the way, but she never misses. Ernestine’s son isn’t sure how much longer he can bring her to church every Sunday morning. My dad volunteered to drive her, but her son says it’s just too hard on him (her son is 74) to get her ready every Sunday morning. We’re hoping to figure something out. I want to be like Ernestine someday.

She seems to be a nice lady. I don´t want to live that much myself. But I have an aunt who is past 100 years old and is in perfect shape phisically and mentally.

Her son has reasons not to be enthusiastic to take his mother to church. He is getting old too.

I wonder if you could stream the sermons to her at the old folks home if she isn't able to get there.

@AmbiePam IT woulnd't be that hard, just something with a camera, and something she can watch or listen to it at her room on.

Ernestine is one dedicated lady! What a wonderful son she has, but yah, I can only imagine how difficult it must be for him (I often never first think how a "child" could be elderly as well). May it work out for her and that she keeps on thriving!

You want to be sorry enough to continue doing what your like to do. Your don't want to be hard of hearing or mostly blind. But I know what your meant. I wonder whether her son isn't in good health either as 74 is no longer old. I'm only two years younger. I'm surprised the assisted living place can't help her get dressed. My mom was in two facilities. One was only assisted living and the other your had to pay extra for extra services. We had both help my mom get dressed and do her pills because we all were still working.

It's wonderful that she has such issues yet still manages to get to church each Sunday. And what a kind son she has. I'm sure it's not easy for him either. And I also hope you're able to sort something out.

What a special lady. Sounds like she can get around better at 94 than I can at 76. God bless her. Have a good week.

For me l am very sorry for Earnestine disability condition. I am glad that she continues serving the lord dispite the challenges she faces especially her being on hearing and visual impairedness. I am very glad for the dad he volunteered on making sure that old woman reaches the church on time every Sunday mornings. He is doing what pleases God and he would continue to be blessed for sure.
