Posting that notice on your facebook profile is wasting everyone's time

October 13, 2024 6:26pm CST
I'm sure you've seen some version of it if you are a regular facebook user. The wordings are vaguely different, but they all basically say 'by posting this on your profile, facebook cannot yada yada yada yada' and well - yes, facebook indeed can. Doesn't matter if 'a lawyer told me to post this'. Doesn't matter if it 'violates the Rome Statutes'. The only thing that matters are those pesky Terms you agreed to when you joined the site.. Doesn't matter if you read them or not, you implicitly agreed to them by signing up for a facebook account. And you cannot negate anything you agreed to by posting a notice on your profile. All that 'notice' is - is spam. Nothing more. And by you posting it, you are a spammer - nothing more. Well, that's not really correct. You are also an irritant, and a nuisance, and several other unmentionable things as well...

Explains how people think there’s a weather machine operated by pet-eating Haitians attacking the flat earth: it was on Facebook!!!! (To paraphrase what Joe Jackson sang in “Sunday Papers,” “they wouldn’t post it if it wasn’t true.”)

I don´t even remember what I agreed to when I signed at FB. I have even forgotten my password. Luckily my laptop remembers some things.

Oh it’s so annoying when people don’t look into things and share that stuff!

But..but... I NEED four friends to repost this as soon as possible, if that doesn't happen, I will fall into a sinkhole, break at least one bone, have to eat food I hate for the rest of my life, and I will die. So you need to repost this ASAP, it's all up to you!

Yeah, the algorithm picks up on everything but that. I remember only one time where Facebook actually "asked for permission" to use my content to train AIs, and people would share info about that. However, it was Facebook itself that sent the notification which brought me to the page where I could deny the thing. They made it hard though, like I couldn't just say no but had to explain why. I don't know whether this thing was worldwide or specific to the EU.
