Our dining table is an all purpose dining table . Besides eating, it is used as a writing table. Visitors sometimes sit around it not to eat but to have a nice conversation.
Our dining table is always cluttered with things that are used on a daily basis - mobiles, and stuff.
Do you always eat together?

I have nobody to eat with daily. I eat standing at the kitchen sink because if I eat at the table my cat tries to share my meal. He is only allowed cat food.
I don't eat at my dining room table. I read and write and use it as a place to store mail and other paperwork and keep my calendars on it

Am a bit confused about you eating standing and not at the dining table because your cat will want a share too. Our cat comes but he is at our feet and the only thing he wants is a piece of bread. He too has his own food - fresh fish and 'Drools'

Occasionally you should try and get all together as it is such a nice thing to sit, chat and eat together

Eating is always at the dining table. However, do not keep the dining table cluttered most of times. One reason is apart from the eating , dining table is also where we write on books , sometimes work on laptops .Besides, we do not want to clutter it as most guests post living room , comes to dining table and keeping it untidy causes havoc at last minute to keep it tidy. Seeing it cluttered , would not make you feel like eating over there. So, yes the dining table is a multi purpose place where not just eating , but perhaps most of life happens in house after living room , bedrooms and kitchen.

I do not have a dining table. There is just not enough room in my apartment. If I had one, I would have to get rid of my bookcase and the China hutch my late mother left me. That means more to me. I usually have a little TV tray table that I set up for me. I rarely have anyone over for dinner, but the times I had my parents or best friend I just gave them a TV tray too.

@allknowing Oh yes, definitely. It was a dining table they had received for a wedding present. It was made so well, with such timeless style, that they never had to get a new one. It wasn’t until my dad remarried and she brought her own dining table that a change was made. But my mom always insisted we eat at the table, and my stepmom prefers that too.

May be when you lived with your parents there was the dining table and you all must have sat together for your meals

Since it's just me and my mother, we don't use the dining table. My boyfriend does become our guest, but we still don't use the dining table.

We use the dining table for cooking mostly, the kitchen has countertops but there are activities such as chopping that feel nice to do while sitting. It's a dining table but it's in the kitchen, so it's also a kitchen table. There is another one in the living room but we hardly ever eat there, only on special occasions.
I usually eat with the whole family on weekends, and with my father in the evening.

When I was holidaying in the US I had spent a few days with my nephew and they too had a small dining table in the kitchen but a formal one in the hall which they used when there were guests.
