It's cool we can specify our location down to the city.
Unfortunately we can only add real places.
Do you really mind if someone hides their location?
I'm asking for a friend from the Vatican City State.
It's the smallest country in the world and they don't want to be found.
I'm not from Vatican City and I don't feel like lying about my location: if I were to say I was from there, someone might actually believe me and start speaking Latin to me.
Apparently, Italian is the official language of the Vatican City State.
Most Vatican citizens know some Latin but they mainly use it to speak to God.
That means I could get away with some Italian and avoid using Latin because, after all, I don't think I'll meet God here. At least not in the literal sense.
Yet again, I don't feel like lying.
There is another matter when it comes to selecting a location here on myLot: some people reside in places different from their place of origin. I've seen a few and, if I remember correctly, they would add the country they reside in rather than their birthplace.
What would you do in such situation?
Would you choose your birthplace or your current country of residence?
And... what else? Oh, 1924 was a leap year, if you wondered.

Actually you cannot get away with Latin or Italian here since the guidelines plainly state English is the only allowed language unless asking for help translating a word/phrase.

@GoAskAlice Yes, you're right about that.
They'd have to contact me via private message to be able to do so.

@somewitch I do like that 'Worldwide' location option since we really do not like people falsifying information.

@anya12adwi That isn't obvious to me, actually.
Why would you choose the country of residence?

@anya12adwi So it's like a matter of IP address, makes sense now.

I have my county and state listed. But I have given my address to a few and often mention the 2 towns that I live between

@wolfgirl569 I see, counties can be pretty wide! So you don't live in Marion city.

@somewitch We had wind and rain. Two limb fell over the driveway and we had no power for two days. We were lucky.

@JESSY3236 Oh, I see. I think it might have been important to mention the state lately because of the hurricanes. I think Helene hit North Carolina, but I hope your area was safe.

@somewitch True enough but sometimes their discussions don't really seem to fit with the information they've given.

@JudyEv I believe most members look at the location to get an idea about the person's cultural background so I think the place of birth is fine if it's somehow more influential than the place of residence. After all, this is not a dating site where you need the exact current location.

@dya80dya I know what country you are from, I don't get why people would make fun of that. Guess some people are just moronic.

@AmbiePam I only see you're from the US. Sure, knowing where a person is located helps giving some context. For instance, their comments about the weather seem strange if they live at a very different latitude where seasons differ. And that's nothing compared to economics, politics, culture and even language barriers that can cause misunderstandings.

Current location is much okay, but some people would always want to carry their country's name, so I bet there are people who will choose their own country.
Anyway just to add up God is everywhere he is always with you. NO need to find a place... He is with you all the time.

@luisadannointed Thank you.
I'm among those who would choose my own country, but at the same time I could add my nationality in the profile description. I guess it depends on which has the strongest influence.

I use too many things, apps for instance that I cannot use a VPN or I won't get rewards..
Not allowed to hide location that is.
Yes, despite all the severe hardships, long story, of being born in the USA, I still would somehow choose it, rather than the alternatives..both my parents not being born here.
There are many places I would rather reside however.

@RebeccasFarm That's a good point. I mean, how can we define countries, nationalities and ultimately the sense of belonging which I suppose is what ultimately matters in this context? That'd be a topic for a whole discussion and I thought of posting one but I'm either lazy or busy.
The USA are very new: while many people identify as American, a lot of attention is given to "ancestry" which can be positive when it's a source of pride and negative when it leads to racism or segregation.
So I guess just sharing the location gives very little info about the person's background, yet it takes that little to think of stereotypes and prejudices we'd rather avoid.

@somewitch it would beyes, translating and learning grammar over and over again, the same one. yes, learning conversational language is so much different, you are right.

@grenery8 Yes, continents only! That'd be a great idea.
Learning conversational Latin would be interesting, like imagining a conversation with a Roman emperor. But I guess the subject in high school was mostly about translating classic literature and that can become a pain.
