I had a friendly but frank talk with my son last night

He insists that he loves us, but that he has to wait for things to be right before he comes back for a visit. Right now he is saying March, but he can never be trusted unfortunately. I don't put any creedence in it. He seems to think just having fond feelings means love..that you don't have to do anything to demonstrate that, however, if you love someone you want to do things for them not have to be cajoled or prodded to do things. He was like "Be glad you have a son..so many are killed in wars, or by drugs or something. I responded..yes, but "What good is having a son if I never get to see him?" He says well "Im just a holler away." Sigh! I worry his grandparents may never get to see him again. If you are a praying person pray that the spirit moves him to come and visit. IE he is living in another country.

He's in Brazil and has been for 5 years, so a good long way. Plus his visa is expired now, and is afraid if he leaves now, he won't be able to get back in.

@snowy22315 He should first get a new visa, of course. But if he has work there, it should be easy to get one. I do imagine that it is difficult for him to go to see you.

@marguicha I am not certain if he has consulted a lawyer about this.

It is frustrating, depressing, maddening you name it. I guess not having children of his own makes him insensitive to the plight of parents.

@snowy22315 We know a family that moved here last year from Brazil.
They did it because of the crime, it is not safe in Brazil, you should not leave, let him come home.

@Juliaacv He doesn't feel unsafe in his area, and feels he knows where not to be..but who wants to be looking over their shoulder all the time?

He hasn't been back. I can accept he wants to live there, but not the fact that he hasn't visited. It isn't right.

@snowy22315 That is a very long time without visiting. I agree that he should come to visit his Mom and his grandparents.

Your conversation resembles the talks with my daughter. Your son has the excuse of living in another country. My kid lives in another U S state. We might see her next year in person IF we travel near her. AND pay for her fare to get to us.

they are so freaking entitled! I mean really what is so important she can't come and help out for a week or two with your knee surgery?

@sallypup I think a sympathetic employer would grant time off under those kind of circumstances, but sounds like her heart isn't in it anyway

@snowy22315 Work. She must have her job. Why it is difficult to get away for an extended weekend is another question. I can't imagine daughter at my house for more than three days. She is very antsy after two.

I understand. My daughter doesn't came as often as we'd like, but she does live 7 hours away, although not in another country. I hope your son and all our kids and grands realize we won't be here forever.

I hope everything is okay with him, it must be tough to not be able to see your son for so long.
