Hey, let’s mix the college rock with classic country! Yep, that’s the way I roll. Scary, ain’t it. I really, really do love both of the songs I use today. Yes, they sound weird back to back, but if you think that’s bad you should hear when my iPod is on shuffle and plays the Ramones after the Carter Family! Here’s today’s country song. I Never Go Around Mirrors - Lefty Frizzell If you’ve ever heard Keith Whitley’s version of this song (which is more likely to be the case for younger people, given that he was more “recent” than Lefty) you might think that Lefty “sounds a lot like” Whitley. No, Keith sounded like Lefty. There’s a line in Moe Bandy’s “Yesterday Once More” that said, “There’s a lot of Leftys now with different names.” If you listen to Whitley, or Merle Haggard for that matter, you’ll hear traces of Lefty Frizzell. This is his second of three appearances on the list, with his lowest-charting song of the three. This came out about a year before he died. It’s become one of his most popular songs for other country artists to cover. I Never Go Around Mirrors Written by Lefty Frizzell and Sanger D. Shafer Recorded by Lefty Frizzell From The Legendary Lefty Frizzell, 1974 Peak chart position: #25 Today’s rock song: “Let the Day Begin” I’ve got a heartache to hide:

@FourWalls lol. They can't all be duds, right? I have to admit, it's a fun series either way, though.

The Ramones and the Carter Family back to back? Why not? Sounds like some of my mixed tapes/cds/playlists---yes I still use all three methods

Used to have to stack diverse 45s on the spindle for the original mixtape.

@FourWalls Yeah I still listen that way too but we have more albums than 45s. I don't know what happened to my 45s---I use to have a lot of them. Now you have me thinking about what I did with them

The music scene in Australia was put in the spotlight last night with Live Nation getting a caning over taking over everything musical and making big bucks while the musicians missed out.

As well they should. It’s ridiculous how the companies make billions off of the musicians.

Did you know his follow-up single to this song was “Railroad Lady”? (Yes, that “Railroad Lady.”) (YOU: “Big freaking deal.”)
