My will power died!

Or maybe it's playing hide and seek and I just am still looking for it. (The pic is my keto supper, bread free pizza. It's actually a lot better than it sounds. Yum)! I do have a procrastination problem, but I wouldn't put this in the same category. My will power problem is related to my eating. I was skinny when I was young. When I was pregnant with my first daughter I gained 46 pounds. Try as I did I wasn't able to lose that until 2019 when I tried the keto diet/eating plan. While I didn't get back back to my pre-pregnancy weight I was happy where I was. I know, I know, most say I should be happy wherever it is, but I don't want any health problems in the future related to that. I kept the weight off for at least three years maybe closer to four, before I began to have a baked potato once in a while and eventually I must have had more than that. Because by last year I was almost back where I started. My Dr suggested I get back on keto since I did so well before but now that I'm retired from my one job I should have an easier time making the right foods, but I'm not doing that great with it. To try to rein my will power back in I'm trying to fast for a day or too and drink plenty of water. I've fasted before with no problem, but... So today I'm trying again. I already know I'll eat later, I'm just trying to wait as long as possible. And, if I do have anything else I'm hoping it'll be minimal. Has your will power ever died?

I no longer look after my weight, I am not fat nor am I skinny but I eat to fill my appetite, So let's see today I had a handful of tater tots and one pork patty and for dessert a ding dong and an ice cream sandwich sort of like cake and ice cream and I feel full,

I've had ice cream sandwiches before. When I eat to fill my appetite I end up eventually wanting more. My husband keeps several snack around which I try not to eat and he makes popcorn which I have a harder time with. My husband is also diabetic and takes three types of insulin. I want to steer clear of that ever happening to me.

@MarshaMusselman I agree that avoiding insulin is a motivator for me too

@Marilynda1225 I doubt that I'll get to that point but not everyone that has to take it looks like they should. So I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I certainly can understand your weight related battle. I go up and down on the scale and never quite reach my desired goal. Its really hard to fast. I don't know how you manage as I would be more hungry for my next meal. I've never tried keto but I'm trying weight watchers as I really don't want to give up carbs or desserts. Just a matter of portion size for me. I wish you success with your diet and hope you get your will power going.

Thanks. I ended up eating. But I realized this time I did make it twenty-one hours counting the time I was asleep, which is probably not too bad. Now I have to try not to eat the cow. I might have a small salad in a couple of hours after my current meal settles. It would be better if I didn't but we'll see how it goes.

@MarshaMusselman In 2021, I decided to lose weight for health reasons. In a year, I lost 15kilos but last year I started gaining back little by little. Though I am not at the same weight I was in 2021, I am still not happy. So I have started my intermittent fasting again and try to lessen my carbs but I am finding it harder now than last time

@rakski that's my problem. I have three main foods I make and two cookbooks for more but I don't have the gumption to try to make many new things.

For the past year or so it's been mostly on. I have weeks when I start losing only to go back up again. Then I decide to not bother but when it goes up more I have to get serious again. I ended up eating what was in my pic for supper but I realized I made it 21 hrs before having that, so that wasn't too bad.

@anya12adwi sure. I have a salad most days, and even when it starts off a bit smaller than normal by the time I add cheese, a boiled egg, a few slices of cucumber and sometimes black beans it's larger than is wanted it to be.

I struggled with weight for years until a few years back. I looked in the mirror one day, and realized I just had to do something. I was borderline diabetic...and both my parents and all 4 of my grandparents were diabetics, I did not want to join the ranks if I could help it. Never, in all the diets I have tried, did I really ever keep the weight off when I lost it. It always crept back up. This time I tried what my doctor suggested--count the calories. I set my limit with him at the time, for 1200 per day. I do not allow myself to go over that except for one day per week, a treat day. And then I am not horribly tempted, I usually blow the extra treat on a dessert of sorts. I love food and I love to cook, it can be very hard. But I am many sizes smaller now, and it has benefited my health issues a lot to dump the extra weight. I wish you luck, it's not easy, I know.

The hardest part for me is that I make my husband meals three times a week. He's 'supposed' to have carbs to account for all his insulin. He refuses to realize that doesn't mean all the carbs he wants but a set amount per meal. I think it might be about 35 gm of carbs or something like that. But he wants a more more. Sometimes I do well resisting what I make him other times not so much.

@MarieCoyle plus he brings all these treats into the house that I would enjoy too. He doesn't want to realize or come to terms with the idea that what's he's eating is affecting his current health and future health.

@MarshaMusselman I know how hard it is to try to feed one person one thing and then you don't want it or need it...very hard. And if it's something yummy, it's hard to resist.

Oh, I struggle with will power since forever. However, I think I've been successful with weight loss so far. The first wall to destroy was emotional eating, which relates to stress. The second wall was impatience because it's a very slow process when you're doing it right. I just stick with what I enjoy doing, being mindful of what I eat and doing physical activity I like. It's been a few months of baby steps, but at least I'm still "walking". And actually I find potatoes to be "my safest carbs", along with oats. I read an interesting study about the potato diet and how potatoes are superior. Lots of suppositions but it was fascinating. Sorry they made you gain the weight back somehow. I hope you'll find a way to get back on track, wish you the best!

Sometimes I do so well for a long time without too much extra sugary stuff . . . but then I blow it and I will stuff myself with sweet goodies - only to regret it later. I don't have a weight issue, but there's always blood sugar levels to worry about.

@MarshaMusselman I know it. I think eating these sweets actually make us crave it even more . . . so we end up eating more of them . Oh and those savory snacks . . . keep me away from those too because I can easily munch them down too!!

My problem is I'll get a goodie here and there and tell myself I'll portion it out. I start ok, but eventually have it more often. I need to quit buying it, or only very small items periodically. If I'm desperate my husband usually has a stash of chips etc I could have. But I try to stay away when I can.

@much2say I feel that way to that both sweet and salty goodies gets us craving even more. Next week I can go back to the gym for their water exercises. I wasn't able to go for the past month because of my cataract surgery. I'm hoping that will help me lose a few of the pounds I've gained recently.

Weight loss ia a test of patience and proper planning. Body never love fasting , it likes to accumulate food as hostorically we could not find food at will. However, instead of feeling pressurised or waiting to be over, we need to change the atitude. Challenge yourself everyday and then you will have one scoop of everything you like. So with portion control , exercise and fasting , you should be where you wanted to be. And you need to be patient as well.Till I realized this, my willpower was poor for food. But once I realized these, I think I am at the right journey. Well, wish you good luck!

My will power is nil and void. I am a foodie and love food. I would like to loose a little weight but can't see it happening. I wish you well on your endeavors and hope you can loose. The older you get the harder that gets.

I lose motivation very soon too. But don't fat unless it's for health reasons. Unless you are overweight or high bmi, don't lose weight.
