Keeping a secret

It is not easy to keep a secret specially when it has been told to you. My friend has an issue with her husband - he is into drugs - but to the world he is a fine gentleman. They are rich but she cannot just accept this situation.
I have another friend who is also a friend of this couple and each time she talks about them it is difficult to converse hiding this secret. I have lent my shoulder and she freely talks about how her husband behaves when he is doped.
Yesterday he landed at my place while she is out of the country attending a wedding event in the US. He is not aware that I know he is into drugs. He talked about how happy he is and grateful for whatever he is blessed with.
He got up and said he would go outside for a smoke making me believe that it is a cigarette that he is smoking and that set the ball rolling. I said I was a pro active and whenever I come to know of anyone with a bad habit I like to lecture. He did take that in his stride but said he likes what he is doing.
I have sent a message to his wife about this visit and am awaiting her reaction
I do not want to keep secrets that belong to others. What say?

Sometimes they want to unburden themselves and need a shoulder for that.

@allknowing It is like they wanted to spread the secret and they hope someone does for them.

I wouldn't let him know that you know. That secret is not yours to tell. I would be on guard though.

It was not easy for me to discuss his 'bad habit' without letting him know that I know (lol)

Yes, it's tough. When it comes to secrets and trustworthiness, I have a strict hierarchy. My ability to keep a secret depends on the person's place in that hierarchy.
Those up high can trust me, while others shouldn't.
It helps I tend to talk very little, but the pressure of having to hold my thoughts back because they involve a secret can be a source of stress, for sure.

It is stressful specially when you are discussing someone and to be able to do it without spilling it
