Chewing and swallowing

What is so special about chewing and swallowing that a post is created on it you might say but one needs to chew enough number of times so that the tummy does not get loaded with that task. Swallowing can choke one and that has happened to so many I know. One should not talk or get destracted elsewhere while eating as it is at that time that one gets choked while swallowing. That is the time one should not cough up but keep swallowing. Any more tips on this rather lifeless subject?

Eat slow, take your time to chew, do not watch TV while you eat and only talk when you have no food in your mouth.

I guess we should all learn the Heimlich maneuver.

@allknowing Maybe it’s called something else in India. It’s the position you get in when someone is choking (they teach it in schools here), where you get behind the person, putting your arms around the choker’s waist, make a fist, and then firmly hit the diaphragm with the fist made once your arms are around them. If done right, it dislodges what made the person choke.

So true. I have found it often that if I don't chew my food enough I tend to choke. I take small morsels and chew till I feel I can intake it safely.

There is the tendency for the food to get into the wind pipe.

I am traveling in car and internet signal is not stable. So, the link is taking too long to open. We take so many things for granted because it comes so naturally to us. But working as special educator, this topic is of so much of significance. I keep doing therapy and activities for children( those who need it) for chewing and swallowing. Some are not able to do it naturally and it has to be taught and triggered. Right from oro motor massage to blowing activities, we do a lot to develop that muscle capacity and that sense Some people loose this ability after accidents and trauma, and they take months to pick it up again with professional help and therapy. Isn't it so that we take so many things for granted in life. Well, my response might not be in relevance to the link shared. I will check it later.

That link is about an image where a guy is busy with his mobile and eating at the same time. Having problems chewing and swallowing surely needs treatment but I am talking of those who are careless while doing it and yes we take so much for granted things that many do not have.

@allknowing Oh! I see. People do all sorts of stupid and weird things with mobile addictions. The youths and younger children these days have forgotten how to eat with their senses

Some people make fun of me because I'm slow at eating, but at least I'm less likely to choke. At the same time, we like having an excuse to hit someone's back which is what we do when someone is choking.
