As I was taking a stroll on the village footpath I met a brother in law on the footpath . A simple and honest man he is. He used to earn his living by pulling a pedal van. He needed enough physical energy to pull his van. Usually, hard working people of the working class used to drink a beverage called country liqour. After a hard day's work a peg or two of this beverage was quite soothing on the aching limbs. The beverage was produced by distilling jaggery. The product was called "bangla" in the local slang. Unfortunately that process of liqour distillation has been abandoned. This brother in law told me that now a days bangla is prepared by stirring a tablet in a bowl of water. You can drink it in the "theka" (shop) or take a pouch home .This man told me in a sad tone," We have been robbed of even this little luxury. "
