Issues continue with gas bill

My mom got a new (National Grid) gas bill for $129.02, which is high. I thought it would just be for the Sep - Oct billing cycle and I assumed she wouldn't need to pay anything because the new bill amount would be less than the credit amount of $118.07, which was the recalculated amount in my online account after I had submitted the 7690 meter reading due to previous bill's estimate meter readings and hence a higher bill. That wasn't the case. The new bill was for Aug - Oct. In it were cancelled charges for Aug - Sep for the amount of $118.07 and new charges of $247.09. The previous meter reading was the August estimate, which was higher than the previous 7690 meter reading I had submitted. The current reading was an estimate too. It was 7824 instead of the actual reading of 7697 that was on the meter when the guy came to look at it. That is a difference of 127. The estimate reading was for October 2 and the guy came October 4. I contacted the gas company about the estimate readings. They said the meter reading when the guy came to look at the meter was never entered into the system. I wonder if he even read the meter. Good thing I had asked my mom to take a picture of the meter that day. The rep I was chatting with entered my reading into the system and said there should be an updated bill. It should take about a week. I wonder though if they will actually have an updated bill or if they will just wait for the new November bill to recalculate things. I have a feeling there will be issues again. I scheduled an appointment for them to come in and replace the meter so it can finally be read remotely without any issues and my mom can stop getting estimate readings and overpaying for gas. I was told the meter is very old. I think either from the 80s or the 70s.

These problems are so annoying and can take up so much of our time. I hope they replace it soon.

Here sometimes the people who should read the meter don´t bother. Estimated are always higher.

I think it’s rare that estimate readings are in the customers’ favor.

They added something to it this summer that allows it to be read remotely but my mom still kept getting estimate readings. I hope this settles it once and for all. They are coming November 1st to replace the meter.

I am upset about the estimate readings. They shouldn't be happening. And I don't get why the estimate reading was Oct 2 when I had an appointment on the 4th to have the meter looked at. Makes no sense.

I hope you get it resolved. I'm thankful gas isn't a bill I need to worry about. Eletric and water are bad enough.

The meter is very old from what I was told. Once they put a new one in its place I hope we will not have estimate readings anymore.
