When friendship takes you down a literal dark path…

My best friend called me late one night and asked me to go with her to pick up a dog. I didn’t know why she wanted me with her, but I hadn’t seen her in person recently so I thought maybe she wanted to catch up. My best friend rescues animals, primarily dogs, but also cats, and oddly, goats (she has seven). So, around 10pm she texted me that she was downstairs, and I headed down to her SUV. About ten minutes after leaving my place we pull into a deserted wasteland of weeds and shrubs, and she looks at me and grins. “We’re here,” she said. Come to find out, someone had spotted a stray dog in the middle of nowhere, and she wanted to set a trap to catch it as soon as possible. Not what I was imagining! She told me not to worry, she brought her gun (she is licensed, and as a single woman living in the country this is not unusual). So blind-as-a-bat-in-the-dark-me kept watch while she set the trap for the dog she had already named Freddie. About thirty minutes after arriving, I moved my scared rear end back to the car and she soon joined me to take me back home. Two days later she checked the trap for the second time, and introduced herself to Freddie. And the next time she asked me to go with her somewhere I asked for specifics.

No one in their senses would ever want to accompany someone that late in the night and I wonder where were your senses

I thought she was headed to the home of the person who was fostering the dog. Nope!

I think why @AmbiePam, our friend Amber, decided to go was that, because they are the best friends. So there's no issues if they haven't seen either of them in recent times. They are still trustworthy. When with friends, we have to keep our senses aside.

Oh wow! I would have been just like you and thought nothing about going with a good friend. Phew!! I can imagine you'd ask for specifics after that little episode.

Did you even sleep after that terrifying ride in the dark? I would not. She must be somewhat good for you though, pulling you to do things that you may not usually do, but maybe next time it will be light outside, I mean if you had tripped and fallen, could she have gotten you back up again and got you to safety?

That was a very special rescue mission, I wonder if it felt like a movie but it was certainly scary. You got a badass of a bestie, I must say.

Did ya think the boogeyman was around the corner? Reminds of the time I accompanied friend out in the boonies to do a notary assignment..smack dab in the middle of nowhere..with a rutted road, the whole works. At least it was daytime.

That would have really upped my anxiety and i would not want to go anywhere with her again. So did Freddie become her pet dog?

No, she already cares for a lot of dogs, so after fostering her for a few weeks she found someone interested in adopting her. She’s very happy now with her new owner.

She’s been with me at my lowest points, and I know she’d do anything for me. I hope I’ve been the kind of friend to her as she’s been to me.

I really thought we were going to someone’s house. She’s a nurse so she works very late so I thought she just hadn’t had a chance to do it during the day. I’d never do it again though. Now I know to ask.

I know people who do the same. Once a woman came here at 12 AM. She asked me to show her the abandoned kittens. She wanted to rescue kittens at 12 AM. Of course I wasnt't able to go and show her anything. It was dark.

You were smart to wait. If it hadn’t been my best friend, I wouldn’t have gone out after dark.
