I cut a scammer off at his first line

I was doing the cat litter today. I had take the rest of the trash out already. I had swept most of the kitchen. But then I was working on the cat litter. I wasn't quite half done when I get this call that interrupted the music I was listening to. I answer it. "What?" "This is David. I am calling you from your TV services." "No you're not." I replied. "Yes, I am." "No you're not. My TV services don't call us." click Ahhh! the joys of living with someone who used to work for my 'TV services!' I used to demand which company, but I needed to do the litter more than keep this joker on the phone. Honestly, few cable companies, at least in the U.S., call you so if you get that scam call, you can tell them and get them off your line. Don't know how it is done in other countries, maybe you can tell me?

I know how that is. I was using the restroom and doom scrolling on tiktok when a scammer called me. I quickly denied the call.

@ElicBxn Yeah, they are. I only get online on TikTok once a day. So I like to think I'm in control.

Well, there is a bit of a reason I do it. You see, I know it is a scam. So, if I answer the call, then maybe they won't get to call to a more gullible person. If you look at some of my other scam call related discussions, you will see that I seldom get them off the phone as quickly as I did this one. Or, heck, the 3 scam calls I couldn't pick up on Monday because I was driving in my car.

I had to return a call today as the scammers seemed to be on a roll and then one came in that I wanted. As I hit ignore I seen it said fireside. That just made me more temperamental when the next scammer called

yeah... I get that, at least I know if my phone announces people, like "healthcare" even if I don't have their number in my phone book. I got a call "dentist" Monday to remind me of my appointment at the end of the month. I did remember it, since I had been looking for something else and found it.

Yeah, I don't normally mind holding them on my phone for longer, but I needed both hands to take care of the litter and I would be moving around. I can listen to music and do some stuff or I can think while doing some stuff. But I can't listen to anything and try to have a conversation. Or write words and listen to words at the same time. I used to type names, and listen to a book on tape (allow me to date myself) and there were times when I would start to type something I heard on the tape. I never actually posted anything, but if a story was that good...

I'm not even sure we have TV services, more of online streaming services these days. And no company I know goes by the name of "your TV services".

These are scammers. "Your TV services" is used to make someone more gullible than me think whatever cable/satellite company they are using is calling.

@somewitch There was the time where I demanded to know which service he was calling from... he tried a few before coming up with the correct one and... that was when I told him they didn't call people

@ElicBxn Exactly, I think coming up with a generic "your TV services" instead of a real company name gives it away. I'd be like "what is my TV services provider, I forgot".

Most scam calls I can smell from the distance. But sometimes they call me about one of my direct family members who are injured. That is harder. But I have cellphone and linephone so I call the person in coma and as soon as she answers I tell her that I´m answering a scam call and give the scammer a piece of my mind. Depending on my mood is the sort of answer I give him.

I have only had it that one time when some yahoo (that means a idiot in the South) called me claiming he was my 'grandson' in jail in Los Angeles. I told him he wasn't, he insisted and I told him he wasn't meowing.
