Down the rabbit hole...oh, the things we can find there.

Not sure how that works, but it does happen to me.
If it's something I have misplaced at home (usually my glasses) I can always find them. If it's information from the internet, it can be a deep and dark rabbit hole, leading me off into umpteen million directions. Then it will hit me that hey, I am not even on topic here anymore...
I was looking up some property that was for sale by an ancestor of mine. Long story, I just wanted to find a picture of it. Then an article popped up about ''the largest landowner in the world'' and that got my curiosity up. I had to look and read, and I was surprised I had never heard this before now.
It turns out King Charles III owns the most land in the entire world.
''The largest landowner in the world is King Charles III and the British Royal Family, who own 6.6 billion acres of land. This is equivalent to one-sixth of the Earth's surface. The British Royal Family's land includes territories in the United Kingdom, Canada, and other regions. '' via Wikipedia.
OK, now think about it...he never earned it, he didn't buy it or any part of it with his own hard-earned money. He was simply born into it. Yes, there are parts of this huge package of land that is leased or rented out...but why? If one man owns this much land, again--explain to me why this is the way it is. I have researched a lot of scenarios here. He doesn't have to pay taxes on it. He didn't have to pay inheritance tax on it, either. And this year, he even got a pay raise. Well, of course, royal living is not cheap, is it?
''By Chantal Da Silva NBC
LONDON — King Charles III's monarchy is set to receive a pay rise of more than 45 million pounds ($60 million), with a 53% jump in its official annual income, accounts show, as Britain grapples with a spiraling cost of living crisis. ''
Somehow, it doesn't seem right to me at all--but then again, I have never lived in the UK, so maybe I am missing something.
I admit I am not as knowledgeable about this lifestyle, but then again, I don't think many of us are.
What do you think? Do you think old Charles should share with others?

There have always been so many rumors that Camilla's son is really Charles' child...just rumors, I don't believe any DNA was ever done. Yes, I have a low opinion of him. Can't help myself.

@MarieCoyle When I went to school half the world map was half red, showing all the 'Commonwealth' countries.

Yes, from what I have read, a lot of it was stolen, or just seized from the owners.

I like to research where my ancestors came from and lived. Sometimes, I find weird stuff on the way to the information.

@MarieCoyle Sometimes I don't want to know, so I kind of avoid it.

I understand. I have been working off and on, on my family's history.

I think that King Charles should share some of his wealth with people who really need it.

Yes, like with the people who pay the taxes to fund his lavish lifestyle!

6.6 billion acres of land? That boggles the mind. I think a $60 million increase is far too much. Have a good weekend.

The lifestyle they live is not something the rest of the world has lived or can really imagine. Plus, they live in a fishbowl, not in the real world. It just seemed like way too over the top.

as for the researching ancestors. My mom wanted to do that so bad and my sister got her a computer program that was supposed to be so good. She spent so much time and only found a picture of her parents grave. She was very familiar with that as she put flowers on it for the summer and watered them regularly
she was so frustrated she made my sister return it. i think there was a monthly fee, my sister was paying it but my mom didn't want to waste my sister's money
I think this was one of the first programs for ancestry research

I think the Ancestry thing is much improved over what it started out to be. You don't need a program or anything.

Maybe he is going to save a portion for environmental purposes. Yes, searching can suck you in deep.

I am not expecting him to live in poverty, but the endless estates and pretty graces are a bit hard to take. But then, I don’t live there, and I’ve never worshipped the royal family.

Makes me wish old Charles was a very close friend who I could borrow from if needed,
