Response to Crisis

So this past week, I ran into my downstairs neighbor as she was exiting our breezeway, and I asked her how she was doing (her BIL and nephew recently died). She told me she had a heart attack, her dog ate her dentures, and she was waiting for the go ahead to have open heart surgery. She said all this to me while smoking a cigarette.
Apparently, she knew she was having a heart attack (she’d had one previously), but she laid down to take a nap before she called 911 (the emergency number in the U.S.). I told her to let me know when she would be having surgery because I know my church would help her.
Some people respond to crisis in really weird ways. My ding bat of an aunt-in-law stopped to get a Diet Coke at a gas station before she took my uncle to the fire station because of his heart attack. (Shakes head)
*The dog is okay, I promise.

OMG, some people are so weird where their health or a loved ones is concerned. When I was at that clinic the other day somebody's BP on the device before me was 224 0ver 111r something..really? Whoever took their BP should have called 911.

@AmbiePam I know .the medical person that was there told me they implored them to call their doctor. Heck, they should have called the doc themselves.or 911! Better to err on the side of caution.

That's crazy. It wouldn't matter who called if it got that high, just someone call, ASAP!

I’m sorry, Lenore. I’ll go add that to the bottom of my discussion. Yes, the dog is okay. I was quick to ask her that myself (it’s the cutest bull dog). Apparently, he passed them in his stool, and the vet said he should have no lingering effects.

How could she have let her dog eat up her dentures. And now you say the dog is fine

@allknowing Yes, indeed. Apparently, he noticed something was wrong with his owner and had a bit of a panic attack.

That was sweet of you to tell your neighbour that, it could likely save her alot of stress that she doesn't need ever let alone at this time in her life.
Your aunt did something really questionable, I hope that she doesn't ever need a family member to take her someplace in a hurry and they decide to make an unnecessary pit stop.

@Juliaacv Oh, definitely. My uncle lives in the Tulsa area of Oklahoma. I’d say 75% of my dad’s huge family live in that area, and from aunts and uncles to third generation cousins, they help each other out (we live 2 1/2 hours away). Their son even pastors my sister’s church.

I remember posting about that incident when it happened because I was so appalled…and very upset. She doesn’t think about many people other than herself, but now she’s going to have to. Her husband is one of my dad’s brothers, the one that now has Alzheimer’s. Her children will be closely watching what goes on. Her daughter helps out a lot now anyway, and she won’t let her mother neglect getting him help.

A guy down the street was supposed to have open heart surgery. He wanted to cancel it because he said he would rather smoke instead. His wife had a fit and he had to finally quit.
Why would she take a nap when she knew she was having a heart attack? Oh, my, she needs more help than ever.

It's hard to watch someone destroy themselves. Nothing you can do except what you are already doing. I am sure she appreciates your kindness to her.

That sounds so much like how my older sister was.

I am definitely not the best to respond here. My philosophy of life is we bite the bullet, It is taught and why you can get away with bad behavior like Marines do because we meant to kill or be killed. We live ever second as its our last.
I am not saying what normal people do or should do, but if they counted out from the start what do you think they going to do?

@AmbiePam I would, these people not Marines and that dog is family. Sure dog is last but they will not let it go. That dog is the new mission so you can accomplish the real mission.

That's weird how she reacts to her situation. And we all are but hers was something different.
Kudos to you though for telling her to let you know about her surgery.

Some people are really weird. They don't bother harming themselves.

When my husband was having a heart attack, he stopped and took a shower and then called me to tell me he wasn't feeling well. I went home from work and called 911 after he told me to call his doctor instead. Have a good week.

In stress and crisis situations, people aren't always the most rational.
