So Formula 1 gets bigger every year with more races than ever and the Netflix show, Drive to Survive, bringing in millions more fans on top of that. But that show is more entertaining than the racing these days as its too safe and too insular, just two teams winning the Championship for that last ten years. This year has been a little better with six different winners of races as Verstappen's lead is chipped away by the McLaren's but still dull racing on mostly souless circuits. Now,back in the day it was very different, and even more dangerous before that, In the 1870s it got so dangerous and caviler as the cars had one-in-three F1 drivers were killed on the track or around the sport, two from airline crashed between races. In the 1980s it gets faster still, crazy turbos, cars with six wheels and Ayrton Senna, probably the greatest race car driver of all time, tragically killed in Imola ,San Marino, Italy in 1994 . He hit the wall at 160mph as the car failed to scrub off speed when the steering column failed, slamming the car into the wall, spiking the steering column into his brain. The Brazilian had God like status in Brazil and died too young but drove in a way he kissed the cross evry time he took a corner at 140mph. He was very intelligent, very quick, very handsome and very rich. Its just one of those sports that requires maxim risk , like boxing, and death will take you at any moment. There is no commentary on this brilliant documentary but just archive footage of the man and his life and talking heads from friends, family and other racing people talking about his talent and death. It was just one of those moments in sporting history that shocked you. Senna is dead:Long Live the King. Its an excellent two hours of BAFTA winning film-making as we delve into his life , loves and achievements. For F1 fans its a must and for sports fans one to watch.
