What if there’s a fire or your place gets burglarized? You won’t be able to get that money back. But in a bank it’s FDIC insured.
We’ve got cash at home but I want to put it in a bank. I think it is safer there.

I have an account that automatically withdraws some money from my account into another one, which puts money towards our house funds and a rainy day fund. The money has to be moved by my phone to be put back into the bank.
I also take out biweekly $10 for the kids for teen nights, which is $1 for them to use. The extra $2 goes into my money envelopes. I thought I'd take the 1's this week from my evenlops and get a $10 for our account instead of 1's and switch them out of the cash envelopes.

I have 2 savings accounts.
One is pathetic, it only has $30 in it.
That won't cover any emergency, good or bad I'm afraid.
I have another savings account that is healthier.
I have a regular personal transfer go into that one from my checking account once a month, as well as every transaction on my checking account (purchases, bill payments, money out of any kind) I have a simply savings transaction of a toonie that goes from my checking to my savings account.
When I stop at the gas station for $50 of gas, $52 comes out of my checking and $50 goes to the gas attendant and the toonie goes into the savings account, then I stop at the grocery store and the purchase there is padded with another toonie that gets added to my savings account. And so it goes.
I have a high interest savings account, which is a little bit of extra help.
I have cash, various denominations, here at home, that could help in an emergency, sometimes plastic doesn't quite cut it.

Credit card interest is so high these days it’s crazy. Hubby opened a card when we bought appliances. His interest started off at about 29% and then went up to about 35%. We had 0% financing though. And after that ended we paid the remaining balance off in one shot. No way were we gonna pay such a high interest.

We have 2 savings acct's 1 for my ss $ & 1 for husband which we're both on
in case of a emergency, we keep as little as a 100$ in either 1 but I save all
I can in mine to help husband with the bills if he needs extra $ to get by on.
We also have credit cards that we use VERY sparingly to work on the cabin
getting the supplies we need to get it done but we LIMIT what we use them for.

@RebeccasFarm we manage how what we spend don't
interfere with our reg bills when winter hits cause that's
our BIGGEST bill of the year to keep paid on.

I do have a savings account OT. And a checking account of course and Money Market too. I usually transfer funds between savings and checking to have enough to pay bills. With prices today, I cringe when those credit card bills start arriving and it's time to pay up.
I guess my savings is like a rainy-day fund. Of course, with this economy I'm always hoping for sunny weather,

Yes, I have a savings account. If you are given approval for credit cards, I think your financial situation is not bad at all.

In India, we donot have the concept of checking account . All accounts are default savings account with different banks providing varying rate of interest but typically lower than that of CD/FD. Most fo bank have minimum balance to be maintained on a monthly or quarterly basis. For emergency , people either save in fixed deposit or would invest in liquid funds which allow for 3 day retrieval once requested. However given the current financial scenario, very less people keep amount in bank. They usually in different things. Purchases or expenses are met with credit cards and payment made through the income they are generated/have generated. Atleast I intend to go in that line. Have a nice day ahead!
