With Christmas just around the corner, it’s almost time to (hopefully) find gifts to give loved ones. You can get creative (like make your own coupon book…a big hit when I was younger), or you can thoughtfully buy something someone just won’t buy for themselves. I used to think my dad was the hardest to buy for, but now it has to be my sister. I’m going to have to think hard this year to get a smile out of her. I wish I knew how to knit or crochet, or even paint!

My middle daughter is probably the hardest for me. I hate to say it but the past few gift giving occasions I just gave her a gift card.

Everybody I know is hard really. Both sis and my parents are stuffed with household essentials and clothes, plus have limited space. One year I knew their air mattress had gotten worn out so I got them one. They liked that. My bro in law liked the personalized mug I got him one year, but sis doesn't drink coffee. Friend I think he could really use a wallet. I just emailed sis, and asked if she would like a lawn ornament..their lawn doesn't runneth over with stuff.

When my dad was still alive, it was definitely him. Now it's my husband! Men always say they don't need anything. Kids tell you EXACTLY what they want, lol

It does, doesn’t it? I hesitate to give money and gift cards for just that reason.

You've mentioned in years gone by that your sister is hard to buy for. My son, and his wife are awfully hard to buy for. They have a very good income, much higher than ours is, so anything that I can buy them, has to be directly for them to enjoy that they would not splurge on for themselves. But that is a difficult chore to find something. My husband is hard too, but this year he will be getting a new pair of corduroy slog slippers and a 3-D puzzle. I cannot figure out a gift for our son and his wife just yet. I usually get them a couple's gift, but I haven't landed on a good thought as of yet. I should put up a post what young parents in their mid 30's would like gifted to them. That might help. For your sister...........I remember when our son was in grade 9 or so, he and Dad got me a foot soak. I still use it, it is my decadent time, to soak my feet and give myself a pedicure. I love it.

My husband is the absolute worst to buy for. We don't give each other much anyway, but he has to have something to unwrap. And our kids are basically the same way. Yeah, that's a real problem to complain about, right?

It's probably not too late to learn to knit and/or crochet but perhaps you have arthritis. I think Vince is hardest to buy for now.

all of my friends have some sort of special interests (books, music, cars, games, fishing...) so i can never go wrong with getting them something that's hobby related. i also try to pay attention to what they say they like and eventually i'll get it for them. i like getting gifts for others more than receiving them

It's hard to shop for whoever already owns all they need or at least they can afford to get whatever they need. Men are usually harder to please, so I'd say my dad too and his birthday is very close. I've just got an idea about what to get him, like in this very moment. It has to do with a hobby, nothing special but my mother planned to split with me on a utility expense as a gift and, while it might be thoughtful, it's pretty dull for a birthday gift.
