Green Tax?

What does anybody in England think about the new, Green Tax, which the government is planning to put into operation? I read somewhere that the hole in the ozone layer is very gradually repairing itself, and it will take between a hundred and two hundred years to completely repair. So, in this vein, how can Tony Blair justify taxing us, on top of Community Tax, for helping the repair of the ozone layer? Is he going to pay somebody to go out there in space with a needle and thread? lol I'd be interested in your thoughts on this.

The ozone layer CANNOT be repaired. The amount of rockets and space crafts that are punched through by many countries will continue for years to come. the amount of obsolete technology that is orbiting the earth is astounding and I could make a fortune in scrap value alone if I could find a way to go and retrieve it. I asked a question loads of moon orbits ago, what does Ken Livingstone mayor of London do with the congestion charge? An educated answer came back saying that he has put hundreds of new buses onto the streets of London and I know what you think of that one. lol lol. The only way that you can stop conqestion on the roads is to ban traffic.

I did read a scientists report somewhere, that the Ozone Layer is very, very slowly, repairing itself, BUT... I tend to agree with you, Deeeky, that the rockets and space crafts will continually be sent up, slowing, if not stopping the slow repair, and these space probes, now started, will never cease. (Another American ruse for power, no doubt!) As for the congestion charge in London... totally ridiculous. A lot of people work in London, and need access at least occasionally. This access, surely, is better by personal transport at intervals, than a whole bunch of extra buses trudging the area daily! But then, you said you knew what I thought about that one. The use of cabs too, has surely increased, so decongestion will never be reachable. Everything balances eventually, to my belief, and taking one car out, only replaces it with another. Do you remember the time when all the politicians decided on a "Bike to work" system? A couple of pics in the newspapers of them riding bikes to work, and hey presto!!! They were back in their limos... one per politician. Now, that would be a good idea, perhaps? Ban all cars from London, use only a handful of buses, and install a Park and Bike system for central London! We'd all be a lot fitter and the polution would be cut no end! Ha ha ha. That provokes a few thoughts! Hmmmm. :-)

I thought so too. Another way to cut down on the traffic is to have the people who work on computers to stay at home and work from there. Good eh. I might even call it a work at home site on the net lol.

Its a load of rubbish. All they are doing is penalising the poor as usual. They need to target the corporate business that have the money to make changes, cut down on pollution but that will never happen. I pay enough tax and now I will be paying for the Olympics which will be a farce. Cut down on the amount of commercial flights is the way forward, what will higher taxes do. Make the fat cats even fatter! The price of gas is so high now along with electric. I think we pay enough so they can stick there green taxes where the sun don't shine. I am all for environmental change and what is happening is scary. However I am not confident with any of the governments decisions, they do exactly what they want to do. Look at the bloody millenium dome. What a complete disaster.

Yes, they do! They need to lose a few pounds and gain a bit of respect from the less fat cats! Which reminds me, I have to start on my diet soon. Thanks for that! :-) Take care and have a great 2007.

Sorry Gabs, I seem to have overlooked this response. The government was proposing a Green Tax as their effort to repair the hole in the ozone layer. Don't make me laugh!!! What do they think they can do to repair the hole, with cash? Money doesn't buy everything, as we well know, but Tony Blair seems to be under some strange dillusion that he's God! To my mind, we're taxed enough in this country, and what are other countries going to do to support this? I don't know whether they're still considering putting this paper through, but it sounds just another excuse to take money from the workers, while the fat cats sit on their backsides and count it!

It is the same with any government. Taxes seem to be the only thing that they really concentrate on, and no matter how much taxes they take off us the only thing that they achieve is to make our pay packet slimmer. Still, it's not so bulky in my back pocket now lol.

As suggested by some other comments, I think there should be more taxes on business - especially the subsidized airline industries. This would make the biggest contribution to Green taxes. However ultimately people vote with their wallets, so maybe a higher VAT tax or tax on goods that were not green would be good also, rather than a blanket green tax.

I agree to an extent. But, I would argue that we have enough taxes in Britain, and what would they do with a Green Tax revenue?
