Reusable sanitary pads

Reports have it that on an average of 8 pads per cycle around 12.3 billion saniatary pads are disposed of each year, globally. - a load on the environment. Interstingly I notice many Shopping Sites are marketing reusable sanitary pads which could help the environment but not to the extent it requires. It is also interesting to note that the first disposable sanitary pad came into existance as early as 1800!!!! What are your views on this?

Gross or whatever but there is demand for them and are available online. Surely the educated probably would go for them. 12,3 billion dumped and the planet carries them.

@allknowing But they are also largely biodegradable. They don't sit in landfills as long as say, plastic does.

Baby diapers are even more polluting, but young mothers do not want to wash reusable baby diapers anymore. Women washed their sanitary pads in the past.

@allknowing I think to remember that the baby diapers are the worst for the environment, not only because of the diaper itself but also because of the packaging.

reusable? How can they assure that its hygienic and will not affect women's health? Does it has health regulation approval or something? I just heard it now. Btw I check your profile and you have so many new discussion that I did not saw on most recent tab. I am checking on them now.

Hygiene must be assured or else why would anyone market them? I enjoy creating discussions.

I doubt many people will use these any more than people choose to use washable diapers.

If no disposable pads were invented people would have been comfortable with the reusable pads.

I am past the age of needing them but when I did need them I threw them out. I use adult incontinence diapers now and would never reuse them, that is disgusting

On the face of it, it does look disguesting but the fact that well established shopping Siteis are emarketing them and the consumers seem to be the educated lot perhaps it is not so disgusting after all.

I don't plan to use them any time soon. It might be good for the environment and save a little money in the long run, but eww.
