Songs are universal form of expression combining lyrics, melody alongwith rhythm. Often, they evoke emotions and recite stories. Some songs capture our hearts and resonate deeply, each time we listen to the song. Songs have been a timeless source of enjoyment.
Lyrics have the power to bring in complex feelings as well as speak on relatable stories. They have some power to connect, offer words that can resonate with our own personal lives, emotions or experiences, something that is often hard to express. Strong lyrics can elevate a simple melody to great levels.
Melody also equally strong can evoke feelings without need for words. Just listening to some music creates or changes the mood, even has an ability to directly speak to listener’s senses. Sometime, people hum a song even as they forget the lines of the song. A well-crafted melody can change the emotional balance of lyrics.
So do you like a song due to its powerful lyrics or its captivating melody?

Both are important. I have a hard time listening to a song if the melody is catchy but the lyrics suck, or are too explicit. And vice versa, I'm rarely in the mood of listening to a song with beautiful lyrics yet boring rhythm. I guess lyrics might matter a little more to me then.

Both are equally important . You love lyrics more and that is perhaps you find deeper connection with words. Thanks for sharing!

@RevivedWarrior Yes, I think I'm very sensitive to what's being "said".

Its some combination of both, but I am usually attracted to the melody or the beat first.

Thats a good observation - music seems to attract us at first and then lyrics. Thanks for sharing!

I think it depends on the song. Some songs have great melodies but lousy lyrics. Some have better lyrics than soing. But both work, but again, depending on the song. Take Horse With No Name. Great song but who could ever make sense of the lyrics?

it all depends on my mood. sometimes i need some relatable lyrics and sometimes i just want to enjoy it. i don't mind even if the lyrics make no sense - sometime i'm in the mood just for that
what about you?

It all depends on our mood and our unique preferences. I tend to favour a bit more onto music part as I even enjoy background music which has no lyrics. Thanks for sharing!
