Reading memoirs

I don’t usually do that but I decided to read some memoirs. I recently read Jennifer Grey’s memoir Out of the Corner. It was interesting to read about her life and her time filming Dirty Dancing. I found out that she was in a relationship with Matthew Broderick and that her father was also an actor. She ended up having to do a nose job so she could get more roles in movies. But that changed her appearance and she became somewhat unrecognizable. After that book, I read John Stamos’s memoir If You Would Have Told Me. I found it interesting as well. Once I started reading I didn’t want to put it down. I knew him from Full House but I had no idea that before that he was on General Hospital or ER. Or that he was on Broadway in the past as well. He was in Cabaret, Bye Bye Birdie, and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, among others. Now, I will read Elton John’s memoir ME. I hope I will not want to put it down either. The book is pretty big so will take more time to read. It should be interesting as Elton is a musical icon.

I loved John Stamos when he was on Full House. I know he resented his role on that show as he got older, but hey, if it wasn’t for that sitcom he may not have gotten famous.

I thought he was already famous from General Hospital and ER. But maybe not as much as after Full House.

@lovebuglena ER came way after Full House in the shows final years on air. The ratings were way down at that time. And he was just in GH for a year, and soaps aren’t as popular as prime time TV, even back then. Full House was seen everywhere, in multiple countries.

@AmbiePam thanks for the explanation. How did I miss that? Now I wonder if the memoir was in chronological order?

i hope you're having fun reading those. i decided to give a chance to the books that are not classics or sel-improvement books and i'm enjoying them, to be honest i think i read like one memoir by ruth shaw (not so popular) - The Bookseller at the End of the World. i liked it. made me realize how life is not a "straight line".

Did Jennifer Grey got more roles after her nose job? I hope so. I hate it when the fans and the directors and other powerful working in that industry can suddenly turn down someone because of their looks. Some of the artist that I know were even force to have a nose job to get the role that are offering to them in exchange that they need to undergo a beauty surgery.

I can understand gaining or losing lots of weight or drastic hair change for a role but not going under the knife. That is just wrong. I wonder how many actors did something to themselves. I think she was able to get roles after that.

They are interesting..I read Michael Caine's biography. And got his signature on it. Then lost it ..the book..when I had to run away from some place I was residing. Anyhow a good read.

I hope I will enjoy it. I never leave a book unfinished and hate forcing myself to read a book that doesn’t seem to be going for me.

@lovebuglena I felt that way about the sequel to Andromeda Strain; but I'm still going to finish it.
