It is very odd for a student who attends the University of Montana in Missoula Montana seeing a bear on Tuesday morning at the bike rack outside of Craig Hall.
The campus police issued an alert at around 10 minutes after 5 am about the bear on campus.
The campus police reported the news that the bear followed the student for a short period but the bear did not harm the student.
The campus police asked the students and faculty to stay away from some sections of the university grounds until the bear was removed from the campus safely.

In my time of living in Montana, bears were seen in strange places. One time when I was in downtown Helena, a bear came walking down Last Chance Gulch, which is the main downtown street. I was in a store with my little girl at the time, the owner locked the door and we all stayed inside until the bear was relocated.

I do not blame the owner of the store locking the door when the bear went walking down the street in Helena..

@Deepizzaguy
My daughter, ever the curious little girl, found a tiny window at her hight and planted herself there to make sure the bear was OK. Luckily, it stayed in the street except to check out a few cars and a trash can or two, before it was caught and returned to the wild.

@MarieCoyle Bears usually do not like to mess with humans most of the time.

@aureategloom I am not surprised about bears being on a campus in Montana. Montana is one of the western states where there still are lots of wild places.

Do bears harm people?
Anyway I saw this post and there are people who are raising bears at home, is that possible or is that legal... they are so cue and smart.

Bears can harm a person when they are being attacked by a human.

That's not too surprising. Glad it wasn't a grizzly.

Thank God the student is safe !
It can be quite a shock to have a Bear at such a close range.
I hope the Bear is removed timely from the campus!

So the bear might be hungry or he might be looking for the library or might want to sign up for some courses,

If your photo is of the actual bear, that was one big bear, and most people would be very careful to keep out of its way.
Perhaps, some secure fencing should be erected around the University to stop that from reoccurring.

It would be a good idea to have fences around the campus grounds.
