I was at the post office and bought one stamp a couple of days ago. I could hardly believe it..73 cents!! Now that is ridiculous! It would be one thing if we were getting good service, but mail delivery in this
state is notably bad. In fact we are one of the worst states for mail delivered on time. My particular service I don't really have any complaints with, but elsewhere in the state I know it is terrible. I see it on the news all the time. 73 cents...indeed!

I gave it up for the most part. It’s just ridiculous. We have terrible mail service here, too. And mailing any sort of package is truly nuts, too.

Often I have a package I assemble at home, for my Florida family. You know, the usual Grandma things--little toys and books and homemade noodles and some homemade cookies/candy...it's a Grandma thing. One little box is at least $15.

I have no idea how much 73 cents mean in this scenario. But what I am a bit surprised about this the way you described your delivery system. You said it's bad and then I saw that you are from the US. Really speaking, the word and the country aren't synonyms with each other in most cases. That's we hear as foreigners about you.
Secondly, why the reason for not sending Christmas cards is because most things are going digital today. And the print volume has gone down sufficiently. It's not that it's happening only in the US. Even we are experiencing the same thing here. The volume of sending wedding cards that the previous generation used to send to acquaintances and to relatives is fast going down. Many people prefer to send such invitation cards or any festival cards through various apps only.

@snowy22315 In the course of time not everything is suitable like it was yesterday. Because there wasn't any digitalisation and no internet in those days, the postal services were something that you had to depend on fully. But as time changed the form of the services also changed. And that's why as you said, if they don't work, there is no reason to have them.

People can now send pictures,, gifs, videos on social media and instant messaging apps! Why will they waste their money into buying cards! How much money it was earlier?

i don't like the price of stamps, but I will be sending out Christmas cards this year as I usually do. Not too many people want to send me cards so i only send cards to those who reciprocity. I send cards once then and if I don't receive a card back then I don't send one back. I have my bad sides. i send about five or six cards at most

@snowy22315 that is a great idea. I have one to give to an old friend and her pets but they live too far away to delivery it in person --Florida-
Honestly, I am sending fewer cards this year because my sister had me send cards out to more people last year, and they never sent cards back. I was so upset!
I am going to get my list together of the people I will send to this year.

If I've calculated/converted correctly, our stamps cost more. The 2nd class stamp would work out the equivalent of a few cents more, I think, but the 1st class stamp is more than double. Ours have increased five times in three years. I have the same issue as you in that the service isn't great. It used to be but now we might as well get the 2nd class post because there's no guarantee that the 1st class will actually be delivered any sooner. I've sent things from UK to Canada that arrived sooner than things I sent within the UK!
I rarely send cards anyway. I'll only usually send them with larger parcels or if the recipient of the card doesn't have any social media!

@snowy22315 lucky it was way back in the 1960s my parents had so many friends and she would send out at least 100 Christmas cards and get back about as much, It was a fun time we had the cards put up over strings all across the living room,

I agree that for the service provided, $.73 is a lot. I still send birthday, anniversary, sympathy and Christmas cards. Have a good weekend.

It's been ages since I last sent out a Christmas card or any other greeting card. Instead, I usually just send my wishes through email, video calls, or messages. Hehe

It is one thing for the postal service to be bad. However, the prices of stamps increased as now maintaining postal services is now not easy. A vast majority of communication has become digital. It is just important documents , gifts or parcels which are getting transmitted and that too during specific times. There are many places, where postal offices are getting shut down as the numbers transmitted are getting down. For the service , well we can only complain but the authrorities need to invest and see to resolve. Partially the issue is also due to lack of fixing the service issues. Well, the prices will continue going up.

Shipping cards is expensive and you don't even know if they'll get there in time, yet sending a picture online doesn't really make it. But I've never shipped Christmas cards, I only deliver in person. I don't even send postcards anymore, when I'm on vacation that'd be.
