And don't say "Ewww"
Ever hear of "fatbergs"?
That's what ya get when you pour grease down the drain. And it just sits there and blocks up everything. And I'm not talking about cholesterol in your veins.
Metro Vancouver says workers have cleared approximately 50 tonnes of hardened fat deposits, known as fatbergs, from Richmond's sewers, prompting officials to urge residents not to pour grease down the drain.Dana Zheng, a program manager with Metro Vancouve

Yikes, that's just plain stupid. I only use butter which I never waste but to pour fat down a drain is a really stupid thing to do. If I used lard for example I would let it cool do a harder consistency then toss in a trash bag but I'm betting someone would think that were dumb as well.

I've long since told people to not do it. I re-use bacon fat for soups.

Oh, you'd be surprised but I suspect they're younguns, mostly of the male persuasion.

No left over stuff goes down the drain here. It is all dumped in the compost pits.

I am very particular about not letting grease go down the drain. No one likes clogged pipes. If it's bacon grease, it gets saved to flavor other dishes. If it's grease from cooking or baking, I put it in a container I keep in my extra freezer (an empty plastic coffee container). When it gets full, I take it past the woods not far from my house and dump it out for the animals, who appreciate it. No waste...it gets used that way.

I try hard not to be wasteful, and to re-use, or recycle, if at all possible.

I suspect dear hubby washes a bit of grease down the drain on occasion. If it runs slow I immediately put a squirt of dish soap down it..

That's good for your drains but what about farther down the sewers?

I have heard of that..but I can't believe people are pouring it down their drains anyway. Aren't they worried about clogging their own drains? I never put fat in drains.
