One of the text books in my psychology classes talks bout happy people knowing how to appreciate the Little Joys in life. Those can include mundane things like brushing ones teeth, watching ones cows eat, and watching the wind blow the trees around. Even taking a good poop is mentioned.
My teaching went well today, and I "chilled" for most of the afternoon. But I decided I would grant myself two final little joys before retiring. I am making some chicken broth now, and will put my dishes in the dishwasher. As I have mentioned in the past, I enjoy the sound of the dishwasher running.
Some of my other little joys are eating sushi, playing softball catch, playing the same chord over and over on an in-tune guitar, planting seeds, tweezing a rogue nose hair that has been tickling me unwantedly, reading a book to a child, sanding wood, scratching Kitty's butt, grading papers, and my first sip of my first morning cup of coffee.
What are some of your little joys?

I like your list. My little joys would include seeing things not expected: yesterday two bottle green hummingbirds suddenly ducked into a shrub of red rosehips. Hearing birds like Canada geese or nattering blue jays. Seeing a curled leaf on the sidewalk. Feeling my hubby near me in the night, knowing he continues to breathe. My companion animals. Beau Teak just climbed up. Got to go. Wish I were joking.

I think that it is important to have those little indulgences. Keeping us happy. Being too strict with ones life makes for possible breakdowns. We have to be good to ourselves and love ourselves before we can be good to others and be productive. That's my opinion anyway.

Thats a great list of little joys. I also agree we should appreciate the little joys of life , which are often underrated. I enjoy my reading ,writing , having simple food , reading about history , watching outdoows through window , listening to music and even enjoying good food . I am trying to expand my list of little joys and perhaps that would keep me sane in this insane busy world. I do get crazy at times on the number of activities in my plate but often I am tired and burnout either physically or mentally. Hopefully , I would get better time control and have peace to myself. Enjoy your day!

After church, I like sitting on the front porch and reading the Sunday paper and maybe playing a game of checkers. Is that little enough?
