I am so tired of senseless violence.

I know, I know...it happens. It's happened for years, but not to the extent we are currently experiencing.
Right before dark, there was a shooting not far from where I live, about 3 blocks, actually. I heard the shots, I was outside at the time, talking to the neighbor for a minute. We went inside.
A clerk was shot twice in the Circle K.(A gas station/convenience store). Not really news to most people, as many of us live in larger areas that have shootings. But this is a small city, a bedroom community to a larger city. And we have been having our share of crazy here.
After the shooter shot up the clerk, he left and shot at a car, someone in the car shot back. They have not located the shooter. They think it is someone wanted for murder in yet another city, my entire area is swarmed with city, county, state and you name it, if someone has a badge, they are out there. We have drones flying over looking for him. They have gone door-to-door, and we have all been warned to not go out, and not open our doors for anyone (I do have door cameras). I always keep my doors locked, I've done that for many years...but to know you can't go out, even if you want to, is weird. It gives me the creeps that they think this guy is so close.
It's been this way since about 8pm. I'm not scared or anything, but there are a lot of people saying they are not allowed to go home, their streets are closed, the police have told them to please go elsewhere if at all possible, etc. The police station took in some overflow.
I always think of things like this happening in big cities, not bedroom communities. But, here we are. I hope they find him soon, so many are displaced, and right now some are worried about family members who are home alone, as well.
Shootings just don't solve anything. Don't people realize this? Someone dies, and someone usually goes to prison or dies because they are shot by police when they pull a gun on a policeman. It's a lose-lose situation...and a sad one.

I hope they find him without a shoot out, but that’s not likely.

I think that sometimes people think that violence will make them feel better. Maybe they need to stand out and this is their way of communicating something. For others it is boredom. All kinds of reasons. We've had some window peepers here lately, even shots fired over on a side street near us. It is rather scary. I'm sorry to hear that you are having this extreme going on in your area. I think it has a lot to do with Trump. He seems to thrive on violence and he likes violent people. No, shooting doesn't solve anything. People are not thinking straight that's for sure.

Unfortunately, they could never do mass search of that type here...not enough law enforcement officials. I don't even think they ever look for any weapons at all, unless one is reported or suspicioned to have been used in a crime. But I am certainly no expert, and I do not know for sure.

@MarieCoyle - They do not check often even here, but if they suspect that someone could not follow the rules they do. We do not have mass shootings here in Europe.

Me, too, Eva. We do have things like this happen at times but I guess this guy killed someone else yesterday, too.

That must have been nerve-wracking for you. Things are getting bad in a lot of places.
A couple of years ago, there was a shootout between the cops and a guy who lived down the street from me. I heard the shots and saw a cop carrying a long g*n to a cop car. The cops won and the guy lost.
The park was full of police and other emergency responders. People could not leave or get to their houses. Several helicopters chugged around overhead. Reporters rushed to the scene to cover the breaking news and police gave a news conference.

I wasn’t really scared. Went inside and son and I made sure everything was locked up, but we always do that. I usually try to walk to yhe gazebo by the little lake before dark, but I didn’t do that last night, between the drones and the warnings, I stayed inside!

I think he made a clear getaway. His car was never picked up by any cameras after it left the scene. They think it could be parked in a locked garage and have searched all likely ones. Very concerning.

The thing is, when it comes to criminals, they don't care about the law and have no regard for other people living on the planet with them. They are here to take what they want at any cost, and the only thing we can hope for are better policing, harsher sentences, and prosecutors and judges willing to hold people to the utmost letter of the law. I know people don't like to hear it, but liberal judges and prosecutors have hamstrung police and removed consequences from committing crimes, even very violent ones, and thus, with less consequences, even if consequences are not often a deterrent either, it makes more people more prone to do bad things.
As voters, we need to pay attention, be involved, and be strong advocates of justice and not only expect to hold criminals to account for their violent behavior, but also hold our elected and appointed officials to account who refuse to prosecute criminals and uphold the law.
When we are soft on crime, we will have more crime. It's that simple. If we advocate for soft on crime officials through our voting habits, we have no one else to blame but ourselves for the violent behavior we are subjected to.
Just like you get what you pay for, you get what you vote for.

@MarieCoyle No. It doesn't. Many more murders are not dealt life sentences though. Perhaps they all should be.

It’s all such a complete muddle and had been for a very long time now. I don’t know the answers. Whatever will work is a mystery right now.

Honestly, when shooters are captured here they generally get life sentences. No parole. But that doesn’t bring back the people they killed, unfortunately.
