The Average Cost for Movers

Here, to move just 1 mile, it is around $700 now. It used to be around $300 and that was including a tip. Now the price is crazy. Anyway, I am going to start saving once again to pay movers. Last time, I paid my nephew $500 and that was including the rental of the UHaul truck but that isn't going to work for next time. He doesn't want to do it anymore and I can't say I blame him. I don't have a lot of stuff, but my son does. So.. How do you usually move, relatives or movers? Though most don't have to move every year or so, or do you?

Can't recall ever having any help to move except maybe a friend with a pickup truck now and again. Nowadays I'd need movers because I simply am unable to heave-ho the way I used to. But I am also now a homeowner so other than the graveyard I'm good, and I am planning to be cremated so even that won't matter none. I usually moved every year or two back then, but all within the same small town or no more than 5-6 miles outside of it. I've always hated hiring anyone to do anything - and everything has become outrageously expensive compared to even a few years ago...

I hate hiring them too as who knows who you get also. I had been lucky with all my movers though so far..good people. Yes to be in your own house is a blessing. Oh no I also can't do what I used to lifting stuff no way.

Ouch! Another reason I haven’t moved in 35 years!!! Dang, at that price I’d just get an unfurnished apartment and start over! Cheaper that way!

It's not my stuff I am moving mostly but yeah if it was just me..I'd do exactly that. Good you have your own place and don't have to move Four Walls.

We used the same company each time as they were very good. Last time we moved they did say they hoped it would be the last time they ever had to move the piano.

We have never hired any 1 to help us move, even when we had stuff in storage in fla, we borrowed a friends truck & brought it back ourselves & after we had to move 2-3 more times after that we did it without help.

I have never used movers. I usually start really early. I rent a small storage unit. I start packing stuff I know we won't need immediately and put it in the storage unit. By doing that I slowly have room to clean and get the place ready to leave. I had transportation then so that worked well. Now, If I were to move I don't know what we'd do. We did move from the 2 bedroom here into a three-bedroom about 22 years ago. We just moved stuff bit by bit. But if it were a ways away that could be a tough one.

It is no fun that is all I know and it is atrociously expensive if you don't have family to help or money to burn. Glad you won't have to be moving Celtic. That was good the way you did it.

Geez! I think when we moved here (about 12 years ago), we got movers to load, drive, and unload the big furniture pieces - can't remember the price though. We moved everything else here bit by bit ourselves by car . . . our apartment was only a mile or so away.

As I live in my own apartment, I haven't moved for a long time. Here, people usually use movers.
