For the Hindus in India, Diwali is the festival of lights. It is the time Hindu Lord Ram defeated Ravana and returned back to Ayodhya to continue his rule and he celebrated diwali. Bengalies also have kalipuja that is puja of Goddess kali at this time. From the period of Dhanteras Hindus clean up their houses and give rangoli with colours and decorate the house. Cleanliness is next to Godliness.

Yes, Dhanteras is an auspicious day.
We also purchased Broom.
On this day, I also cleaned my fans and set a few places in order.
Today, the day before Main Diwali is celebrated as "Naraka Chaturdashi" or the day of slaying of the mighty demon "Narakasur".
This is done mainly in Southern India.
We had to do a lot of running around, purchasing a lot of decoration things and things for Prayer rituals.
