The internet has transformed our lives significantly – from the way we learn, communicate and even work. Internet has helped to breakdown geographical barriers and has provided bigger opportunities for global collaboration.
There was a time, when people used to keep in touch with others by meeting or visiting them, calling them and sending letters. With internet the communication became real time. And with advent of social media, the messaging apps they became the essential tools for constant touch. This became true especially during and post the pandemic.
What I started to notice is that a vast majority of people now prefer to be in touch with their loved ones through the internet than visiting/calling them in person. With social media, they are able to give mass updates and feel camaraderie in their immediate circle can be maintained with help of messaging apps and social media. It is one thing if we are physically far and another if we are nearby.
I agree that the internet has become dominant manner to stay connected in the digital age with our real and virtual friends. However , should it be the crucial manner in which relationship are sustained and nurtured?

in Bosnia people are still gathering in real life, you use Internet to make plans and stay in contact with people that are far away from you. that's what it's good for

While social media is incredibly mainstream to keep in touch, I’ve never developed an affinity for any of the different apps. I’ll text, but if someone is really close to me, they’ll at least get a phone call. Unless they’ve indicated they prefer another avenue of communication.

Well, you are keeping in touch with near and dear ones by phone calls and ideally that should be the way . Very few are in that elite group . Thanks for sharing!

I agree with you, but I think internet loses the people's focus.... that is why they miss it when their loved ones is sending them signal that they are not okay, that they need support, which is in some cases there are families who have sudden news that their kids had gone the wrong way, or their parents is sick without them noticing. because video calls allow us to communicate without being focusing to them.
