I was in America at the time of the Columbine shooting. It was on the news and although a big story no one seemed that surprised or, indeed, bothered. It seems the right to bear arms is more important than the right for nutcases to use them. If you shop in Wall Mart back then I swear to you the ammunition is on sale there is some on the bottom shelves as that’s where the gun lobby want it. Little kids can pick up bullets and cartridges. Its crazy! The numbers for gun deaths remain fairly static these days, around 30,000 per year, 10,000 gang related, 10,000 suicides and 10,000 accidents, murder and all sorts. Did you know 50 small children under ten are killed or kill with guns there every year? Did you know there are more guns than people in America? It’s insane. They sell automatic weapons....machine guns, some to kids. Why on earth does a member of the public need to fire 200 rounds per minute? Michael Moore, quite rightfully, tackled this nonsense with one of his rather excellent documentaries, Bowling for Columbine. Kids here in the UK with autism or depression and loners at school don’t have access to guns so fatalities in schools very very low where as in America they do have gun access. The Gun lobby argue people kill not guns, but they only fund politicians there to sell more weapons rather than have a moral position on guns. It’s appalling. Michael Moore’s polemic on the macho absurdity to bear arms was the last hope something would be done. Nothing was done. As always he approached the subject with humor and horror, pathos and sympathy, the only way Moore can be taken seriously, I guess. It’s just a horrible state of affairs when little kids go to school and the first thing they do now is drill to evade an active shooters. And these are not black kids; these are white kids, often middle class, often simply angry and rejected over nuts. Interestingly, autistic kids on the spectrum are five time more likely to be school shooters. It’s a great watch and if you do vote Trump and can get passed Moore's irritating head and style you will still enjoy this film. If you are voting Harris you will love it to, a confirmed firearm owner and hunter I believe.

I've never actually seen this although I remember hearing a lot about it. When schoolchildren have to be taught how to avoid being shot by members of their own society something is very wrong. I decided that if I had children I didn't want them growing up in that environment. Not that the UK is perfect - far from it - but at least that's one thing we don't have to worry about too much.
