I learnt to type when I was doing my secretarial couirse. Much water has flown down the bridge since then and I am now a lady of leisure after having given up my job as a middle management executive with a multi national company followed by some business experience designing and executing landscaped gardens. I am ever grateful I learnt to type as I did not expect there will be computers in my life where I am now busy typing away and jet speed few hours every day. Image credit:

I took a course called Intensive Office Education. We learned the basics our Junior year of H.S. Typing, Record Keeping, Shorthand, office machines and marketing. Then our Senior year we ran the class like a business. Each of us took turns being a receptionist, bookkeeper, typist etc. We were in the class 4 hours a day. Was never very fast typing, as I didn't trust my fingers on the right keys, and instead memorized a sentence at a time. But with a computer I am at ease with typing as it isn't hard to correct a mistake.

Your courses were truly comprehensive I notice. Do you remember this sentence? " The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" This sentence has all the 26 alphabets.

I remember taking a typing class on the computer. Of course, the internet was a few years away, but they wanted to prepare us for job skills. We all shared one computer; that’s funny to think about!

Typing on the keyboard is far lighter and fast too. Never imagined a day would come and I would be on mobiles and computers.

I also learnt to write when I was doing my secretarial courses. I still have an old small typewriter like the one in the photo.

I have a baby Hermes. But I have no need for it as my PC takes care of my needs.

@allknowing I moved the typewriter to the garage no more than one week ago. I have to check if it has a vintage value for someone.

Funny isn't it? When I was at school the people who learnt typing tended to be those who were not expected to do well at more 'academic' subjects. Now we all type!
