Years ago, a friend of mine was involved in politics. A particular columnist wrote a rather nasty piece about her.
At the office everyone was talking about what she should do and say, and no one was listening to me.
The phone rang and I grabbed it. It was a reporter wanting the politicians response to the columnist's post.
"Oh, I'm sorry but the politician doesn't read columnist."
That ended the whole possible drama.
If I was running against Trump I would ignore his tongue pulling.
I would go on with saying what I wanted to say and indirectly making a comment... for example... I would make a speech about the value of some immigrants and do a btw mention on Puerto Rico.
If asked for my response on what Trump said I'd reply...."I'm too busy focusing on...(put in my various positions) to ...."
You get the idea.

Trump didn't say Puerta Rico was an island of garbage...a comedian that his campaign people hired said it. But then Biden called MAGA supporters Garbage. I thought Deplorables was bad...but Garbage? And Yes Biden really DID say that...I saw and heard him say it. So I guess I am a Nazi, Deplorable, piece of Garbage. My Presidnt Said So!

Trump called the entire country a garbage can. So he was calling everyone garbage, including his own supporters. And he called Kamala supporters, scum, vermin and garbage.
But he and his delicate snowflake supporters get upset with Sleepy Joe accurately calling them garbage? Yes, they do.
And then Trump drives around in a garbage truck dressed like a garbage man.
Tuesday is Trash Day and we are taking out the trash.
