Discussion #2 of my November Discussion goal: graduating a step

Good morning!
I have been cooking using the stovetop for a while. Last month, I started using the oven. By that, I mean, I turn on the oven myself, preheat it, and put the food I am cooking in and out of it.
Honestly, I love everything I have cooked so far.
But now, I seriously think it is time to so-called "graduate " in learning cooking skills. I think I want to learn how to brown ground beef on the stovetop. One can make so many things with ground beef. I was thinking of looking for a Hamburger Helper but in a Great Value brand.
If I decide (i am very, very near to buying the ingredients) to make something with ground beef and the equivalent of Hamburger Helper I will have my sister teach me how to pick ground beef, I have an idea but need a refresher course. My heart doctor told me to eat 90%+ lean ground meat to keep my heat healthy.
Question:
what is your favorite thing to make with ground beef - if you are not a vegetarian that is. if you are a vegetarian do you have a favorite meat substitute?

meatloaf is a wonderful meal. what meat do you use? everybody I ever talked to used ground beef. My mom used ground beef and ground pork and used mustard instead of ketchup.
I thought about making a meatloaf as I have a really pretty turquoise meatloaf pan that i forgot i had
another favorite my mom made a few times was Italian meatloaf with some kind of tomatoes mixed in the meat and mozzarella cheese melted on top. that was one of the best things she ever cooked.
I used to try hamburgers but they always would fall apart in the pan. it would frustrate me as i love hamburgers!

@LovesEverybody You have to really take your time shaping them and compressing them so they don't. Italian meatloaf sounds very yummy. I might try that sometime.

@snowy22315 Italian meatloaf was my favorite meatloaf growing up. My mom wouldn't cook it very often, maybe several times a year
May i ask a question? what do you mean by compressing a hamburger? Doesn't one make a hamburger by pressing them together?

I have heard of mince but didn't know it was in Australia too. I thought it was only in the UK.
is a potato pie the same as what the people of the UK call Shepherd's pie? I read a lot of books that take place in the UK and learn terms through the books
. My mom made the best meatloaf. she added half beef and half pork for the meat and used mustard instead of ketchup.

@JudyEv I have never tasted Shepherd's pie but have seen pictures online that show what a shepherd's pie looks like along with the recipe for it, and it looks and sounds delicious

@LovesEverybody lean ground beef is gross. 80% is good for most recipes. As long as you aren't eating it every day all day for all 3 meals you are fine and you can tell them to STFU.

@NJChicaa I am beginning to think the same thing. My primary care doctor and heart doctor practically have me eating no eggs. yet my primary care doctor wants me to eat more protein. isn't that what eggs are? so I eat as many eggs as I want. I even bought another dozen tonight

when i cooked regularly before Covid traumatized me, I cooked a lot of ground beef casseroles and usually used 85% my sister always chastised me that it had too much grease. Then my heart doctor started telling me to use a higher lean meat. I don't know what I will choose

@grenery8 as long as they are edible and you can eat them. I have made quite a few things i could not eat. Such as the beef stew i put in the crock pot for fifteen hours as i wanted to make sure the meat was cooked enough. My sister had to tell me to get it out of the crock pot.
it was probably a dark time for my family, they knew what was happening. I was kept out of what was happening it until i was nearly better
