The Perfect End to DST

Slow time. That’s what my dear mother of blessed memory used to call it. For the record, the Amish call it that, too.
Tomorrow the clocks go back in America (offer not valid in Arizona and Hawaii, where they have the good sense to leave the clocks alone). As the meme spoofing “The Sound of Silence” says, “Hello darkness, my old friend, soon you’ll arrive at 5 PM.” Yeah, no kidding.
But this isn’t about that. This is about my afternoon.
I went to Jefferson Memorial Forest for a little walk. I haven’t been out walking around in the area for eons, so I was pleasantly surprised at the improvements that have been made around Tom Wallace Lake.
And, of course, the colors. We had some wind earlier this week, which one of the local meteorologists said would be a “leaf-stripper,” but we still have plenty of beauty left as the clocks and calendars wind down.
I hope you had a great day, too!

I totally agree. We have a law in the US that the only mandated time can be standard time. It would be much more appropriate if meteorologists got involved in drawing the time zone lines here. Right now they look like a drunk guy tried to color a kid’s menu. (For the records, time zones are voted on by the population, which is why towns geographically east of my location in Tennessee and Alabama are on central time and I’m on eastern time. )

@FourWalls Do not complain too much, Europe decided ONE time zone, except Portugal that is one hour behind. This cannot be more ridiculous, some places have to wait until 9 in the morning for sunrise.

Sorry, cats come first. They can’t tell time…or they can but they don’t care. Big Boy (one of the neighborhood strays) was on my back porch at 10:30 this morning wondering where the heck I had been.

Yeah, they don't mess with the time in Saskatchewan, either.

@FourWalls Yeah, they didn't want to confuse the cows... or so it's been said.

Pretty view. We need to leave the time alone.

Thank you for the compliment on the photo, and I agree with your opinion about the time.

Nothing like soaking up the beauty. One of our local meteorologists is already doing his sn*w dance.

@MarieCoyle — it has sn*wed on Halloween before here, too. And we’ve had cookouts the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Last year, it snowed here on Halloween night. This year a few weeks ago, I saw about 10 snowflakes and blinked, they were gone. So, no snow here, not yet.

It is what it is. Griping about 5 PM sunsets won’t change them, and in reality I’d rather have them than 9 AM sunrises!

I’ll be down there enjoying your weather once it gets cold here.

Sounds fun, I like to do that. We have big mountains, but I live on flat dry dirt. It takes miles and miles to see something cool. Usually I go, its cooler from my porch. I miss the days could just walk out house and just explore, how cool. Now its to much effort. To many people but very cool you have that. Do not trade it for anything.

I live in a great place. Lots of nature around, and I’m centrally located. In six hours I could be in Chicago or Atlanta or Memphis!

@FourWalls That's always fun too.It takes about 4 hours just to get out of this state where I live. If I wanted to go North it would be a good 10 to 12 hours. South is about 3 to 4 hours but Mexico is never a place I felt comfortable going. I know some nice people but I hate things when its not simple and everyone is so on alert.

II set mine back one per day so I didn’t have to “run around” doing it last night.

I did housework last night, too. When you age the old Elton John song “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” becomes “Saturday Night’s Alright for Doing Laundry.”

Lovely picture. I'm all for darkness at 6:30 not 5:30. Have a good day.

We’re in an enviable spot, about as far west as the eastern time zone goes in Kentucky, so it gets dark about 5:30 at the earliest here. When I did my college internship in Nashville it was always dark when I left the Hall of Fame at 5 PM in December.
