Do you do the same thing every year for Christmas and other holidays? When my husband and I moved in together, We put the special things he did together with the special things that I did. We open our presents on Christmas Eve and the one from Santa on Christmas morning. We ate the same things for Christmas meals when we still had children living at home. A spiral ham and a turkey, homemade rolls, vegetables and fresh fruits and a relish plate. We would have a couple of pies after wards. When all the kids left home. I told my husband we are having different things for our Thanksgiving meal and different pies. So that is what we do now. We are also so strange that we might have a slice of pie for our breakfast. Whatever we want for our meal.

Yeah, pretty much. Probably won't decorate this year, but yeah. For the most part, we do.

I changed the decorations as the children got older and that was all I really changed.

@kaylachan I am trying to imagine the physical reality of Christmas in Florida. I'm used to either dreary gray rain or frozen snow on that day not tropical warmth.

We have changed many things. I dont do anything special for Thanksgiving. For Christmas we have cut back on what we fix as the kids don't eat as much as they used to of it

Everything is different for us this year. There will be no Thanksgiving dinner made and nothing special for Christmas. Have a good day. I love the donkey. He's so cute.

Pretty much yes. When there are these festive seasons especially the prominent ones that fall once every year, most of the households tend to do the same things every year. We do the same during the Diwali time, and my friends who celebrate Christmas, also do the same that they did the previous year.

@jstory07 For example, we just finished celebrating Diwali, which is also known as the festival of lights. The festival runs for around a week, in total. This period includes all the traditions that are followed here. So, generally people buy new clothes, any wearables like new watches, new shoes etc. We prepare sweet and spicy dishes which is a different fun to eat altogether. The most important part of the festival is lights, because after all, it's the festival of lights. All people decorate their houses with electric and oil lamps. The dancing lights bring a different flavor to the festival altogether.

We do the same thing every Christmas. I will make a big Christmas dinner. The exact ingredients might vary but it will be two or three types of meat, some roast potatoes (and maybe other roasted root vegetables), green veg, Yorkshire pudding, gravy, and maybe some cranberry sauce or mint sauce. We open one gift each on Christmas Eve. Everything else is opened Christmas Day. That will usually be late morning or early afternoon, depending when my husband wakes up. I'm always the first up! Even though our children are adults, I still like to make things Christmasy. My husband isn't that bothered but he understands my reasons so he goes along with it! We don't do so much decorating but we will have a tree up. It will have any special decorations (personal ones or homemade ones) that are still usable. I might put a bit of tinsel or some lights around the tree. After our Christmas Dinner, we'll play some games (we always have at least one new game as it seems to have become a tradition with my sister-in-law to get each other a family game). We might then have a nap, have a drink or indulge in chocolate or cheese.

@jstory07 I do try to make it fun. I always say that anyone else is welcome to join us. They never do but that's probably a good thing as my place isn't very big We see other family before or after.

My hubby and I are starting to think more about snacks during the day instead of a huge meal cause its just us two. I love a Christmas tree. Last year I had a grand time setting up the tree and putting on bitty ornaments that I'd bought from a shop downtown and from the senior thrift store. Its so hard to make the day special when its just two people. We tend to read the same short stories to each other at Christmas. We have the tradition of watching The Homecoming Waltons movie, too.

@jstory07 Thanks. My fake tree is 4 foot and looks kind of teeny by the wooden stair case. I would love a cut real tree but hate what it looks like in January. I'm sure I will make sugar cookies. We always make and then mail out Yule Tales, too. And can't forget plastic Santa all lit up on the front porch!
