11/3/24- Update On My Husband

I spoke with him last night. I woke him up; so he was really hard to understand. He slept all day and only had breakfast. No one bothered to wake him up for lunch or dinner. Now he said he wants me to bring him food; so I will bring him a pot roast dinner from Bob Evans today.
There are some of you who have been wanting me to get an emergency pendant. HSN had one for $150. There is no monthly charge; so instead of $30-40 per month, I will just have the one-time charge. It only has to be charged up every 2 months.

If I remember right, yesterday he was made to exercise more, and perhaps the exertion has led to fatigue. Sleep helps to recoup. Perhaps that is what the doctors and nurses thought and deliberately let him sleep through the lunch and dinner period, though why they wouldn't try to wake him for the dinner is surprising. After all, he would remain hungry till the next morning, right? I too would move him out...

They have long-term care where he is and at the place he was in before. He couldn't get in anywhere else.

@LindaOHio This is awful. He likely won't be returning home so it is imperative to find a good long-term facility for him. My grandmother was in much worse shape but Medicare/Medicaid paid for 10 hours of a health aide to be there at the house with her every day while my parents worked. They preferred to pay for that instead of having her in a nursing home.

@NJChicaa We don't have Medicaid (yet); but I will have to get my husband on the phone to find out what his options are. They won't give me the information unless he authorizes me. We were ready for him to come home in April when he broke his hip. He was in much better shape back then. It really sucks.

He is being neglected at this facility, no one to call him and allow him to miss 2 of the 3 meals provided during the course of a day?
I am sure that he will be famished when you bring him his meal, but I hope that he is called to breakfast and lunch.
I cannot help but to think that there is a much better facility near that would meet his needs.

I agree that an emergency pendant is a good idea and I think HSN has a good return policy if you aren't happy with it.
I'm simply astonished that they let your hubby sleep through 2 meals. I know all this is overwhelming for you but it's starting to sound like the other place was better.
Hope you enjoy your visit and can get some idea of what's going on there.

Yes, you can return it up until January 31, 2025. They should have left a tray for him to eat.

Can’t believe they didn’t wake him up or at least leave some food for him. Wow.
Do y’all have a security system? My ADT has a medical emergency button along with fire or burglary.

Yes, but it's not working now because we've been without a landline for over a month thanks to Kinetic/Windstream. Our security system has a button too; but it's a monthly charge.

I think the alert necklace is a really good idea. That's so wrong that those people let him just sleep through meals. Prayers for you both.
