Hello. How are you all? I'm groovy.
I've had a varied week. Last weekend, my husband and I went to a pub quiz. I was going to the pub to book a Chrismtas meal. As it's a 30 minute walk away, I didn't want to go just to come back again. Husband agreed to join the quiz with me. We did well at some rounds, not so well at others. The sports round always lets us down, although we did manage 3 points on that round. We would have got 4 had I not listened to Husband on a question! We came 4th out of 5 teams in the end. The scores were quite close. We actually got the highest score in a couple of rounds, and I think we were the smallest team. There were prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and a booby prize for the losing team. So we ended up the only team with no prize. We had fun, though, and we might go another time as it's on every week. I did book a Chrismtas meal as well so that's something ticked off my to-do list. The meal will just be me, Husband, and my best friend (and sometimes one or both of my sons). Normally, my friend's partner would join us but he's opted out this time. The pub normally caters for allergies but they can't do it for the Christmas meals. We did offer to find an alternative.
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday were pretty boring. I got weighed on Wednesday and realised I'd put on over a stone recently. I need to get that gone otherwise my clothes soon won't fit me!
I went out on Thursday. I used to go to a karaoke fairly regularly but, for various reasons, very rarely do that now. A friend had come home from university for half term holiday. She'd asked me to meet up with her. We went to karaoke, which was also Halloween so people were dressed up. It was a good night. I did some karaoke and I got to catch up with my friend. She's going to be taking a break from university as she is having a baby. I'm quite excited for her. I also have a neighbour who is pregnant.
On Friday, I would normally see my parents. I couldn't this time as I was doing something else. Our local theatre has recently reopened, now run as a charity and by volunteers. I am a volunteer. This was the first time I volunteered on the bar. I'd worked in pubs and bars before but not for over 20 years! I did enjoy it. There were one or two glitches but we got through it. As you can imagine, the bar was quite busy before the show and during the interval. We kept the bar open for an hour after the show. Before the venue originally shut down, the bar would have been closed after the shows. I really did enjoy it. One of my work colleagues came to see the show. I saw her the next day and she said I must have been knackered working a bar for 5 hours straight after my usual full work day! I'm usually always tired but I was wide awake. My back was hurting as I'm not used to standing for so long, but it's eased off quickly.
In Saturday (that was yesterday), I went to see my parents. My dad was in some pain with arthritis so my mum asked me to pick up some painkillers for him. I did that. I had said to my husband that I didn't want to kill my positive vibes (going to my parents', I often come back wondering why I bothered). It wasn't too bad this time. It was just me and my parents, which is unusual. We had some lunch and a chat. I told them about what I'd been doing, and talked to my dad about whether he would be able to join me to see a show or two. He won't make it to the next one my son is in, but I am going to get him a ticket to see Showaddywaddy next year.
Today, I've mostly got boring things to do. But my eldest son should be returning home today. He'd gone to visit some friends who live near where he went to university.
The next thing I'll be doing is going to see Cinderella the musical at another local theatre. It's not really my thing but I want to support local theatre and a colleague/friend is involved and asked me to go. My sister's mother-in-law used to be in the group but stopped last year as she couldn't keep up with the dancing. She has, however, done some of the decorating for this one. After that show, near the end of this month, I'll be seeing my youngest son in a silly version of A Christmas Carol. I realised it will be the first show I've seen him in as an adult. The last thing he acted in was when he was at college (he may just have been 18 but I think he was 17). I'm really looking forward to that.
The day after my son's show is my youngest niece's birthday and my middle granddaughter's birthday. Another tick on my to-do list is that I've got their gifts sorted, just waiting for delivery.
There are more things coming up. Next week, I am volunteering front of house for a show. It's quite a well known comedian (although not my taste) who has been very supportive in getting the venue reopened.
What have you been up to? I'll have to update you again soon.

It can be tiring! I had been wanting to get involved in something for a while but didn't know how to go about it or what I could do. My husband did also remind me that I need to be careful not to take on too much He knows how important theatre has always been to me, though, and that I would do anything to support our town's theatre (especially as the town has very little else).

Years ago, I did some volunteering with nurseries and play groups but I'd not done anything for some time. I've always been interested in performing arts. I was in a group but, again, hadn't done that for years. My sons both joined the same group more recently but, sadly, that was one of several groups that disbanded due to covid and the venue closing down. When the opportunity came along to support the venue reopening (we thought was going to be lost forever), I jumped at the chance! Like you said, it is a bonus to enjoy some things for free

@pumpkinjam I love live theatre, I have volunteered at our 'local' for over 20 years so far an recently I have started doing a few more varied things as well. Hope you continue to enjoy it - and glad the theatre was saved!
