A Round to It

If you have lived long enough, and most of us have, you have heard someone say, "When I get around to it," probably a million times. It's as common as American pie being American.
I always remember my dad used to keep red washers in his pocket when he was a Chief Petty Officer in the navy. Written on the washers were the words "to it."
He always said, "Whenever someone says to me 'when I get around to it,' I hand them a washer and then say, 'now you have gotten a round to it.'"
According to him it did not necessarily mean anything would get done or change. But if nothing else it at least got a good laugh.
What would you do if told someone you take care of it "when you get around to it," and someone handed you an actual round to it?

I used to have a circular tuit on the wall above the hall light switch when I lived in Hamilton, Not sure what happened to it...

@porwest Maybe, but I doubt it: it was only paper.

what a good story! May I ask what a washer is? Your father is a handsome man? One more question, what does CNT in CNT whites? hey, don't learn if you don't ask.

A washer is simply a round metal or plastic, and sometimes paper ring with a hole in the middle of it that helps to secure a bolt to a nut or other things. For example, you might have a fender. You put a washer down first, then push the bolt through the hole and the washer, and secure a nut underneath. Hope that helps.
As for the CNT in CNT whites that navy personnel wear on occasion, it stands for Certified Navy Twill. Now you know. Chief Petty Officers and officers could also wear CNT khakis.

I thought that was you in the photo! Lol
I would definitely get a laugh if someone handed me a washer with the words “to it” written on it. I’d be like, “well, I have no excuse now!”

Great photo. Looks just like you. I'm the one that likes things done right away. My husband is the procrastinator. Have a good week.
