Are you celebrating Diwali?

A conversation with my drug dealer (my friend at the liquor store) led me to realize/remember that we are in Diwali, the festival of lights. In Hindu (and Sikh, I believe) tradition, Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and intelligence over ignorance. Last night, I lit a single candle and placed it in my window. I believe that many Indians celebrate for several days, but I am not sure. When Horse Jr. and his mom were here, we would celebrate by lighting candles, placing them on a raft, and floating them in our pool. Are you celebrating Diwali?

I always wanted to celebrate Hanukkah. I had a classmate in school who celebrated Hanukkah and Christmas. To me, it was the coolest thing. They were Messianic Jews, so I figure that had something to do with it. Diwali sounds really fun.

I'm not sure that we can definitively celebrate the victory of intelligence over ignorance, nor of good over evil either.

You have never seen Diwali amongst Hindus in Australia? I thought there were many Hindus who have settled in your world.

@vandana7 Had I not lived in an apartment complex with many Indians, I might not have known about Diwali here.

@TheHorse I am willing to be Poly religious...if they made me President of the US, America would get loads of holidays, one week cake holiday before Christmas, one week pickle holiday, one week kaju katli (cashew sweet) holiday for Diwali...one week ice cream holiday...I think there would be less stress and more fun all around.

We did. Indians celebrate all over the world. There was a celebration at the White House too. It is an annual affair, I have come to understand. We need the victory of good over evil more than ever.

I look for evil ones to understand what they are doing is wrong and so stop doing it because it is gonna hurt their loved ones in future. Not kinda war....but intelligence...victory over evil in self, perhaps?

@vandana7 It looks obvious that the evil thinks they can get away Scot-free from their actions. One needs an iota of conscience to do what is right but the state of affairs of our world reflects the evil leading us. The majority end up mere spectators.
