Are you celebrating Diwali?

A conversation with my drug dealer (my friend at the liquor store) led me to realize/remember that we are in Diwali, the festival of lights. In Hindu (and Sikh, I believe) tradition, Diwali celebrates the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and intelligence over ignorance. Last night, I lit a single candle and placed it in my window. I believe that many Indians celebrate for several days, but I am not sure. When Horse Jr. and his mom were here, we would celebrate by lighting candles, placing them on a raft, and floating them in our pool. Are you celebrating Diwali?

I always wanted to celebrate Hanukkah. I had a classmate in school who celebrated Hanukkah and Christmas. To me, it was the coolest thing. They were Messianic Jews, so I figure that had something to do with it. Diwali sounds really fun.

I'm not sure that we can definitively celebrate the victory of intelligence over ignorance, nor of good over evil either.

We did. Indians celebrate all over the world. There was a celebration at the White House too. It is an annual affair, I have come to understand. We need the victory of good over evil more than ever.
