A Satisfied Mind - Porter Wagoner
I stinking love harmonies, and this song has it. And I love the message of this song. When the stock market crashed in 1987, Walmart founder Sam Walton reportedly lost half a billion dollars. His comment? “It’s only paper.” And that’s what this song says: “The wealthiest person is a pauper at times compared to the man with a satisfied mind.”
As popular as he was, Porter Wagoner only had two #1 hits: “Misery Loves Company” (which was written by Jerry Reed) and this one. That’s good for chart boasting, but Wagoner was a legend. Songs like this explain why.
