You’ve probably been waiting for this guy to show up! I mean, my teenybopper idol, for crying out loud! And yes, at long last, here he is…with a song “everybody” has at least heard of! I TOLD you it wasn’t provolone! Rocket Man - Elton John On the album this is listed as “Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time).” They shortened the title for the 45. Good move. And the “provolone” remark is from that old VW commercial where everyone messes up the “burning out his fuse out here alone” line. This has replaced another song that was on an earlier incarnation of this list, “I Feel Like a Bullet (In the Gun of Robert Ford)” (or, as Elton actually sang in the song, “Robber for” ). Blame that Floyd Cramer impersonation Elton pulled in before the final chorus. Honestly, this is a better song. It’s a question of what mood I’m in when I pull songs or replace them. I do update this list every 5-7 years. Fear not, Elton will always have a place on it somewhere.
