During the 30s to the 70s just about everyone smoked. In movies, tv shows, everyone smoked. Then the bans started, the quitting started, and all those commercials with their celebrity smokers were gone. Most of those I know who quit put on weight pretty fast. And traded one health issue for another.

It is no sense one quits smoking, then over eats and gets all kinds of other issues

My hubby used to smoke. He and my MIL both smoked. But when his mom had a mild attack, I used that opportunity to pushed him to stop and he did

When we talk to our children of how people smoked in bars and restaurants, on the school bus, in the teachers' staff room... they seem like descriptions of a different world!

the point is, they quit but then got fat... I found it strange that quitting smoking seems to lead to obesity

I don't know... cause they smoked and were okay and then quit, got fat and a pile of health issues

Yeah I watched this webseries- Voltaire High. It kinda portrays France from during that time when coed schools had just started. So there everyone was smoking. Even the teenage boys.
