I didn't start the day out on a good note.

Yesterday was hectic here. I wasn't feeling my best, and neither was my son. The phone rang constantly and the weather was dreary. A good friend lost her brother. Oh, there were other things, like a migraine that kept rearing up...but the harder I tried to make the day better, the worse it got.
Before I settle for the night, part of my routine is getting my coffeepot ready for action when I wake up. Since my time is not my own, that could be anytime, so I just get it ready to push the button and don't set it on auto start. As usual, I did that last night. At least, I thought I did!!
This morning, as per usual, I staggered to the pot and hit the button. Made the bed, and came back as it was finishing making my juice of life and reason. I had my mug ready and waiting, and poured a cup of heaven. But...but...I forgot to put the coffee in the machine!!!!!!!!!!! And I needed that coffee so, so bad this morning!
Yes, I made a pot of real coffee immediately. But how could I have done that? I knew I was distracted about my friend's brother, who was a good friend and fellow animal rescuer for years and years.
I just can't believe I would get so distracted I would forget to add the coffee.

It’s bad when you need to drink a cup of coffee to focus so you can make the coffee!

I actually did think of that, but my mind and body must have coffee in the morning!

I've done that too. With other things. I've been so tired I've forgotten to fridge things or do things I'd normally do. Well you have a chance to make things better.

@MarieCoyle Anyone in your shoes would. I know it happens to the best of us. At least you were able to make coffee easily enough.

I think I just need to keep my mind on what I am doing, but hey...in my defense, I was tired. Thank you.

I sometimes just get too much in my head to deal with all at the same time, I guess. Yes, several of my friends have lost a sibling lately, it's so hard. Thank you.

So sorry to hear about your friend's brother. These "forgetful" moments happen . . . but darn when it's with coffee. I did similarly not too long ago . . . . I remembered the coffee but forgot to put in water . . . no wonder nothing was coming out . Hope you and are your son had a better day today .

Oh, I feel better...I forgot the coffee, you forgot the water. If we were in the same place for a day, we might even lose the coffee machine or forget where it is!

Sorry about the coffee. I have had nights where I didn't feel the water bottles with fresh water that i keep in the refrigerator before bed and I have awaken and had no ice water i am not a happy camper.
Despite being freezing i can't drink water unless it is ice water

I used to have time to do a lot more rescue work than I do right now. My son’s illness has taken a lot of time and energy. We do still foster at times, usually we try to do a puppy or two for a short stay on its way to his or hers forever home. My son loves the dogs a lot.

@LovesEverybody Oh, it's very hard to foster them for just a day or two as they are so sweet and needy. But it's good for my son, as well as me, so we do still try to do it. He loves dogs, and to hold a little puppy or dog for hours is right up his alley. He is so good with them. The rescue group I usually work with is very, very picky about who gets their dogs--they have to be inside dogs, spayed or neutered, shots, etc. plus they have to have a fenced in yard to play in, and not be tied out day and night. I'm glad they are picky. I have seen enough animal neglect doing rescue work, it's unbelievable how terrible some people treat their pets. I always wonder if they treat their children the same way, so sad.

@MarieCoyle how kind of you. I would have a hard time letting the cat or dog go on to their forever home. I get too attached.
My sister has a friend who rescues cats. She usually has a handful of cats.
My sister also knows another lady who lives on a farm and when people don't want a cat they drop it off at her farm. at any one time, she is taking care of at least 40 cats at a time. She can do that because she lives on a farm

To be honest, I think this kind of distraction can happen especially on a stressful day and I am not a bit surprised about this - you forgetting to add the coffee. Because I have also gone through such time and I forgot to add sugar while preparing tea. It was later when I poured the tea and took the first sip, it hit me that there is not even an iota of sugar in the tea.

@MarieCoyle It can happen that we don't realize that we are getting stressed. But it's good that you realized it. So now you can determine your schedule accordingly.

When a person is caring for a sick person, scheduling is mostly non existent. You just do the best you can. Sometimes, there aren't easy answers to things.

My mother is a coffee drinker. I'm not. Sometimes she asks me to make her coffee. A few days ago I was going to do that and I was about the hit the button and noticed the button wasn't flashing. It needed water. lol
My mother is sick. She says she has bronchitis.

There are days when everything we do goes wrong and everything that comes to us id bad. We just have to be calm , call it a day relax and go to bed , hoping the next dy would be better. I have went through same and even worse. But it is important to remain calm and composed like how you did. We can get easily distracted by things when our mind is not at the right place. Life is sometimes mysterious in certain ways and we do not have answers. We are vulnerable to many things . Our mind is greatest gift but it is also a curse as we can potentially over think. Well, take care!
@MarieCoyle (37102)

Oh, I can call it a day, sure. But when you are caring for someone, the option of just ''going to bed'' is not an option much of the time. You get to sleep when they sleep. But yes, we don't know all the answers, and we are all vulnerable.
Thank you.
