Help!?

Hi,
I'm using my travel laptop. I was told my a young man at Office Max That using Norton Security would slow down my computer.
I need to ask your advice and opinion on what is the best security program for me to download, that will protect me from virus, worms, security, etc.
He told me to go to download.com for free security downloads but. I'm not tech. savvy and need your guidance.

Ya its right that norton slows down the system speed
I would suggest u to use BitDefender antivirus ,i m having it i donot get virus trouble(4 months) and it very easy to use

I use avg free.It is as good as Norton but is free and doesnt slow My system down

i use avg free, too.... i can't remember for how long... but i just got a notification that it will be expiring soon.... i thought it's a free product with no usage limitations... =( but it's good. i had no problems in the past months.
now i'm looking for a new anti-virus software... i've tried norton, and mcafee before...
