Friday Frustrations

United States

Happy Friday Everyone! the beautiful weather continues and I've been enjoying all these days of warm temperatures and sunshine. We need rain desperately and we might luck out and get some on Sunday. My house phone rang early this morning and woke me up before my alarm was even close to going off. Of course it was a call that was a number I didn't recognize but once it woke me up I figured I might as well just get up rather than try to squeeze in a few extra Zzzzs. Why do I have a landline? I ask myself that question all the time. I have two people who insist on calling the house phone. One is my Aunt who called later this morning while I was having my cup of coffee. She's almost 90 and I've asked her quite a few times to call me on my cell but she always says she doesn't have my number. I know my house phone is on her caller ID so she probably just hits the call button and doesn't have to actually put in each number. So, I keep the house phone just for convenience The other person is a friend who is stubborn beyond belief. She has a cell phone herself but refuses to use it and says she likes speaking to people the old fashioned way. That makes no sense to me since talking is talking regardless of the type of phone you're using. I know she refuses to text which would make things so much easier (for me anyway) when it's just a short message and not a marathon phone call. I know I'm old and set in my ways but these two people can drive me nuts. Anyway, that's my rant for today I don't have anything specific planned for today. I have a package to mail out and I have to call the local mailing place and see if they're open on Monday which is a holiday. My daughter is off from work and I'm sure we'll be out doing whatnot and can just drop it off. It's right next to Dollar Tree and I can see myself running in there to spend some money Other than that, nothing else is new. Looks like a quiet weekend which is fine with me. Last weekend was busy enough to last for awhile. Hope everyone is having/had a good day and a good weekend.

So sweet that you have kept the landline for those two people! We have given up landline many years back!

I cancelled my home's landline several years ago. Will go to my brother's place for dinner tomorrow. My sister-in-law is very good at cooking. I always enjoy the food she prepares.

I held on to my landline until I got a smartphone, and then I finally said aloha. But it certainly doesn’t hurt to have it just in case. Enjoy your day!

The reception here isn't as good as it should be for being in a city suburb so we've kept the landline. If you did get rid of it, the second friend would have to come to terms with the mobile. lol

I was thinking I could just say I changed my number and then she wouldn't realize it was my cell

there are some stubborn people like that, nothing we can do about it a lot of people in Bosnia still have landlines because it's cheaper to call others that also have landlines. you can talk "for free". it's cheaper than using cellphones

I dropped my landline the year Bob would not answer it and I had a car problem. He also does not answer his cell. My thought was "why spend $50 per month for something that is not being used.

I have a home phone connect which is technically a cellphone, but it can be plugged into a phone jack and used with traditional phones. I wouldn't bother with it, but friend pays for it. He thinks I should always have a phone available. It does come in handy when I misplace my cell or I need another phone for mystery shopping.

I used to have a landline. I never thought I would have a cell phone. I don't even really recall why I finally went to a cell. But, I do understand. There is a bit of uncomfortableness for some of us. The thought of something new and different. Nice that you keep the line for them.

We gave up our landline 7 years ago when we down-sized. We were moving far enough that we could not keep our telephone number as it wasn't local to this city. I do not miss it at all. My day was busy, but in a good way busy. I even got a couple of loads of laundry done over the course of the day today.

We have a landline phone, because my husband insists that he understand better people when they call our landline instead than our smartphone.

@Marilynda1225 - My mother always told me the same. Our landline is VoIP that it is a lot better than the old landline phones. It is true that you do not feel "interruptions" as you talk.

I had my landline cut a long time ago. Though sometimes I wish to have one but I am sure that most of the times it will not be used

We keep our landline for our alarm system and also as our main phone. The cell phone is our backup. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.

I don't remember ever having a landline. Maybe it was there before I was born.

We gave up the landline a long time ago. You could maybe put your number in on your aunt and remove the landline number.
